BIG STAR: NOTHING CAN HURT ME
Three shows only!
Official Selection, 2012 SXSW Film Festival

"A heartfelt tribute to the criminally overlooked band." ? Entertainment Weekly

"For anyone already curious, the film delivers the goods." ? The Village Voice

"A fine documentary on the classic-rock era's greatest cult band." ? Rolling Stone

BIG STAR: NOTHING CAN HURT ME is a feature-length documentary about legendary Memphis band Big Star. While mainstream success eluded them, Big Star's three albums have become critically lauded touchstones of the rock music canon. A seminal band in the history of alternative music, Big Star has been cited as an influence by artists including R.E.M., the Replacements, Belle & Sebastian, Elliott Smith and the Flaming Lips, to name just a few. With never-before-seen footage and photos of the band, in-depth interviews and a rousing musical tribute by the bands they inspired, BIG STAR: NOTHING CAN HURT ME is a story of artistic and musical salvation.

DIR/SCR Drew DeNicola; DIR/PROD Olivia Mori; PROD Danielle McCarthy. US, 2012, color, 113 min, DCP. RATED PG-13

So many great options in the area Saturday!

I find Jay-Z annoying as fuck from a music perspective but he's rather talented on the promotion/production/business side.

JT, on the other hand, I find to be a pop masterpiece. I'm still somewhat peeved I missed his club date back in 2006 (does that sound right? can't remember the specific year.)

Jay-Z and JT Thursday.
Definitely going more for JT.  Although the Jay-Z interview on fresh air years ago was really interesting and really stuck with me.  AND, he was really nice on Bill Maher last weekend.  None of the celebrities ever recognize the people on the panel when they're pushing their items and he said "It's so weird to sit here and talk with you and pretend everyone else isn't there".

I think JT is a total entertainer.  Excited for the show!
And I pulled up tickets for that 930 show and threw them back.  Bad idea.
The Killers - Saturday night.
oh darn you.  i love the kiillers.  i want to go.  darn you.

I make no bones about the fact that he's on my Top 5 if I had Do Guys list.

I just bought tickets.  At first they brought up pit seats and I didn't want them so i put them back and got front row of seats.  Sometimes it pays to wait until the last minute.
it always pays, to wait.
will you be the oldest one there?
don't think grown men listen to the Killers.

I am never the oldest person at a concert.  Why would you think grown men don't listen to the Killers?  You people worry to much about going to see bands.  And then all you can go to is see crap bands like Black Sabbath who were even awful 40 years ago.
Joe is just, as they say, "hating."
Just trolling!
Me too!

This week:
Weekend choices (will possibly pick one):
Saturday - Run the Jewels at 930
Hunx and Punx/Chain and the Gang/Hunters at Comet
Lonnie Walker/Unspecified Services/Winks/Small Apartment at the Crown
and
Sunday - Whirr/Nothing at DC9
(possibly skipping all of them)

I will definitely be at Speedy Ortiz/Roomrunner/Hive Bent/Bleeding Rainbow on Monday at Metro Gallery though (bought my ticket a month ago)!!!
No.

People say I am supposed to meet others at shows but none of you go to the shows I go to.  I think a few people are going to the Neutral Milk Hotel show at 2640 space.
