Pretty rockin' Wild Flag show, though something was a bit off. Definitely better the first go-around, but still a good time. Nice encore too.
Pro of the night: getting a free 3/4 full PBR. Hey, it was free!
Con of the night: getting gum on my jacket :(

I blame the lame gum chewing, swill drinking crowd.

This show didn't do much for me. I am burnt out on concerts I think! Its great to see Janet Weiss, probably my favorite drummer, and Carrie Brownstein.. 2/3 of Sleater-Kinney ain't chump change… but they just don't have enough songs that make much of an impression on me.. For $15 its hard to complain but I enjoyed them more earlier in the year when it was fresh, expectations were less,, and it was easy to overlook the fact the songs aren't there.. Like I said a few of the songs are really cool (Romance for example), and I could listen to Janet Weiss drumming all night, but when the two encore songs are covers with an immediacy lacking in most of the show something is missing. The show is up on NPR for anyone to listen to and make up their own mind.
PRO: merch stand had the new album fully autographed..nice touch..lady working there said she'd sold me the sleater cat t shirt i was wearing.. i said "that was a real long time ago.. like at least 12 years!" . she said she'd worked merch that tour…so 2/3 of sleater is touring with sleater's merch lady…you do the math.
CON: stinky crowd.. guy next to me at one point smelled like an ash tray… his chick was gassing it up or something too…
actually the con was i just wasn't that into the show.. i do really enjoy seeing janet weiss.. she's a monster drummer..
Eleanor Friedberger or whatever her name is sounded better to me last night.. too bad i only caught a few songs

I had the same feeling. I don't think I had heard a single second of their music the first time, so hearing it live was a pretty nice surprise. It didn't take away my enjoyment TOO much, but I'm sure it had it's impact.

Oh man, the only thing worse than wearing a band's shirt to their show is wearing a shirt of their PREVIOUS bands! ;)

It looks I'm missing The Damned on Sunday night, it breaks my heart to do so but I don't think my schedule will allow it.

They were tighter the first time but appeared to be having more fun this time from their banter and the over all more garagy feel of the show.

Does that mean all the douchey Jesus Lizard fans are going to become instant Legendary Shack Shakers fans?
P.S. He's been playing with them for over three years now. Still doesn't make their music listenable, imo.

so there are two M83 shows this friday, with one opener. do we think set times will be something like:
6:00 doors for early show
6:30 active child
7:15 or 7:30 - M83
8:30 show ends
9:00 doors for late show
9:30 active child
10:15 or 10:30 - M83
11:30 show ends
?

Historically, shows at the Black Cat tend to start later and end later on Fridays, like 12:00 or 12:15, because the Metro runs later. I suspect there'll be a longer gap between the openers and M83 in the later set. I'd be surprised if M83 took the stage before 10:30.
If anyone has extra ticket to M83, please PM me.
