This week rollcall

If I were you, I'd see the Do Make Say Think show. Reviews have been very positive on their current tour.

I've only seen Sloan once over 10 years ago…I walked out. Maybe they've gotten better though…

Trying to decide between Sloan and DMST/Years/Charles Spearin on Tuesday. What the hell has happened to Sloan that makes them play a freaking coffee shop? (OK - it could be a few mediocre releases in the recent past). *sigh* Still, leaning towards Sloan simply because I can't tolerate the lack of public transportation options in the H St area.

But I will venture out there for Land of Talk at the RnR Hotel on Thursday. I thought their album "Some Are Lakes" was one of the best albums from last year. Elizabeth Powell is one hell of a guitar player.

I saw Sloan once. In 1993. I guess that makes me old.

I'll be at Elvis Perkins Wed.
I'd be going to Sloan tonight but working the late shift  :(

At this point I'd dig "Twice Removed" start to finish.

Part of Sloan's problem is Andrew, he is deffo their weakest link with his songwriting and not always consistent drumming.  Jay is the most consistently good songwriter but only gets one or two songs per album.  Leaving Patrick and Chris to duke it over which RAWK band they want to emulate.
I'm a power pop fan, so I'm supposed to like Sloan, but I don't.  They just aren't bringing the hooks, except for some really good tunes that that one guitarist comes up with

That would be Jay and I didn't fact check myself in the previous post….
It'll be interesting to see how energetic the show is. Murphy is usually the visual focal point but his collarbone was broken in a hit and run (hence name of the new EP) and apparently still has discomfort playing bass.
mr. p and i will be at sloan tonight. that's all him. i've never actually listened to them.

Really, really good show. Almost made me want to grow a beard.

For those who didn't get enough Elvis, there's El Vez tonight and Night of 100 Elvises tomorrow night.

That was enough Elvis for me. F'ing hot and packed as hell, but didn't matter, great band.

Meh. I've seen MUCH better from them. Murphy's stage presence was toned down from previous shows. Might've been the venue but more likely a result of having his collarbone broken. Setlist consisted of "almost hits" and new stuff. Sparse crowd.
Tonight: Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin @ The Bell House
Wed: Violens @ Mercury Lounge
Fri: Inward Eye?? @ The Studio @ Webster Hall

Sparse? Gah, sucks. Sounds like a few things were involved in the "meh" show.

Home sick, which sucks, but maybe Sunday: Switchfoot.
Anyone go to Arctic Monkeys last night? Thoughts? I enjoyed it a lot, but wasn't blown away. I think they are really embracing their stoner phase with open arms. Could have used a couple more songs like "Mardy Bum" or "When the Sun Goes Down".
Anyone going to see Brendan Benson tonite? Any idea what the advance ticket sales were like for this one?
Thought last night was pretty good. This band's older stuff annoyed(s) me but I like the stoner direction. Gave a few tracks from the new album a listen beforehand out of curiosity and was pleasantly surprised. Hopefully they keep going down this path.
I'll be at BB tonight.
i bet the show will be quite empty.

After last night, empty is most welcome.

It was a fucking sauna in that room.
