Kylesa was great opening for Clutch in Richmond last month, and won't it be fun to see how Kylesa (2 guitars, bass, two drums) will even fit on the backroom stage?  That's about the best I can do.
They were great opening for Mastodon at the club in '09, too. I'd go as far as to say they were the highlight. Still; not happening tonight. :(

That's tonight?!?!? Holy cow, I really wanted to go to this.
Funny think about Kylesa, I was really into the last album for the longest time before I realized that was a chick. Blew my mind.
I also like Fight Amp.
I need to stop going back to Germantown after work in Georgetown. Don't feel like doing shit after that commute, typically.
they have two singers….chick singer is cool (love her vocals), the guitarist/guy who sings….not so much…

Thoughts on last night's Yo La Tengo show?

I pretty much hated it.  For the "spin the wheel" set, we got the "Sounds of Science" part 2.  This was actually really interesting music, but just not the right setting for it.  Also I was really not in the mood for.  I was really hoping for the Condo Fucks set or something with some energy.  There was alot of audience chatter throughout this set, as it wasn't really holding alot of people's attention.

Then about 11:15 there was about a 20 minute break and they came back for another set.  I left about halfway through that, so maybe it got better, but from the part I saw they were just not picking any songs I wanted to hear (except for Tom Courtenay).

I know some of this is my fault for going, as I've felt over YLT for a while and don't really like the last two records.  I was just drawn in again by the spin the wheel set concept, hoping to hear something really different from them.

The show also just felt too late.  Having the main band start at 10:30 is late for a show with an intermission.  I know some of that is due to being out the night before seeing Kylesa, who were awesome.
I loved the first set but yes, the crowd was full of people who had short attention spans. Disagree on the 2nd set but this was my first time seeing them (crazy I  know given that they play DC so often). Also agree on the show feeling like it went a little late. William Tyler was excellent but as with the first YLT set, the crowd had trouble shutting up and listening. This was expected, however. Reminded me of when Grouper opened for Animal Collective at the club. Not exactly that rough but yeah.

What stuff did they play in the second set? I left after the first part. I was just way too tired, and apparently so were many other people.
Dr. Dog simply killed it last night.

The Head and the Heart were really, really good too.
Girl Talk last night at the National was fun.  I'm not sure if they charge for coat check but if they do they must have made a killing, ha.  I got video of the crazy show if anyone is interested.  The club will have two crazy nights  ;D
Bet the Staff are looking forward to the Girl Talk shows like Gwarmas. ;)
