Less low key than I thought. Forgot The Frames would be backing Swell Season. Those guys are great.
Well, if we're counting Sunday, I'm in for Devo too.

I concur. That concert was just magical. Glen Hansard is freaking awesome. Love The Frames too. Glen said next year was The Frames' 20th anniversary and that they'd presumably mark that occasion with a special tour. Can't wait for that.
So where were all you Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings fans tonight?  Cause ya missed a great show
class  :'(
Damn fine show that was, indeed.

Ugh I hate the thought of having to go to Baltimore two nights in a row but Shrinebuilder and Jandek are two opportunities that are too rare to pass up.
I was at Alela Diane/Marissa Nadler show at DC9…both were fantastic…

just in awe with Marissa's voice…

My short attention span review of the Eccentric Soul Review show….

Local DJ Nitekrawler opened the show with a great set of DC Soul/Funk 45s checkout his website at http://www.dcsoulrecordings.com/index.php

Opening the show and serving as the evening house band JC Brooks and The Uptown Sound got things kicking right off the bat.  They are a up and coming Soul/Funk band who not only have the sound but the songwriting skills which many over-hyped acts seem to lack.  JC Brooks in particular is a very compelling front man with a vocal style that borrows from Little Richard, James Brown with a little rock and roll mixed in.  Do not miss these guys if they ever return to DC.

Next up Renaldo Domino who was good but not really compelling, he did a great take on "Tainted Love" sort of a cross between Gloria Jones original and Soft Cell's version.

The Notations were fantastic, solid four part harmonies who easily slipped between Acapella standards, to soul and funk songs.  Highlight of the evening for me.

Last up was Syl Johnson who brought the eccentric to the revue, one could hear the band kick it up a notch prior to him hitting the stage.  Syl who has been sampled but a virtual who's who of Rap and Hip Hop artists, turned in an energetic set in which he did a killer version of "Take Me To The River".  He's make an excellent warm up to Ms Jones at some point.
Anyone know the general schedule for Sonar? 6pm doors, when would the bands go on? And yes, I am going to see Brand New tonight, what of it?

Thanks, already did and he was mighty friendly.
Just randomly checked DC9's site and saw that Gallows is playing Saturday night. Whoop! Still love that debut and this year's follow up is good, though not as epic as the first one. Looking forward to this.
I just tried calling to ask about something and got a recording followed by a "this voicemail box is full" message.

Edit: 2nd time's a charm.
