What Are You Listening To?

the new nick cave

huge let down

its the biggest snoozer i've heard from him

boatman's call was slow but wonderful..this is just plain boring..

i prefer the grinderman stuff to this
taking back my comments above… once i got the kids out of the way and was able to focus on the lyrics/songs and actually hear more than the tempo….

i may like this most since boatman's call.. not saying its his best or anything..just that i like it and it does really fit my dour mood of late…. the album is entirely of a piece… almost feels like a concept album (much like boatman's call) of sorts…. having the lyrics in the booklet is essential because some of the lyrics were changed/altered and seeing what happened helps understand the songs more… one song has the entire last stanza chopped off..the last song adds a few lines at the beginning etc…
It definitely grows on you.  Did you get a chance to watch the LA live feed of the show?  Jubilee Street is a standout.  At first I was a little disappointed in the down tempo as well, but I think it's really solid.
Thurston Moore's new band Chelsea Light Moving is GREAT.

still kicking myself for missing that - archived anywhere?
i'm enjoying the new one - after 'dig' and the grinderman onslaughts, I needed a bit of a breather.
the 'lawless' ost is cool also in an 'o brother' sort of way.
It's out there.  I picked it up - great show.
Loved Lawless.  Soundtrack is great.

I am sure there are tracks up on youtube!  Haven't tried to find it since it aired.
Herbie Hancock Maiden Voyage

definitely one of my desert island jazz records…

Domino Records is reissuing their four albums on LP for RSD, and this box set is "way out-of-print." Domino's USA webstore still has some copies. Most copies from other sources, even the used ones, cost more.

The Replacements - Songs For Slim

Tracks 1 and 2 are Slim Dunlap covers.  "Busted Up" is a tasty New Orleans R&B inspired stomper.  With "Radio Hook Word Hit" this track puts a whole lot of bands recording in Lo-Fi on notice.

Had I not checked the credits for track 3 - Gordon Lightfoot's -  I'm Not Sayin', I would have swore is a was a vintage 'Mats original.

Tracks 4 and 5 are the standards - "Lost Highway"  and "Everything's Coming Up Roses" done as only the 'Mats can do them.

EP is out digitally and will be replaced as a 12" in April.
Annual Yo La Tengo cover set… tune in now!!

Good point.

This one happens to be safe for work, however.
