What Are You Listening To?

Eden Express - Que Amors Que

Just stumbled upon this and am very happy I did. Think psychedelic Bossanova with a hint of an Indian influence. Loving it so far.

If you'd rather hear a melancholy Beck front Gnarls Barkley, this ones for you. Chan Marshall really doesn't add much as the new Beth Orton.

He should have tripped out the whole album with 'Chemtrails' type tracks.
For Ixkpd-BK, Sweetcell and any other minimal techno fans:

Morgan Geist's new one just leaked and is good thus far.

And much of it features Jeremy Greenspan (Junior Boys).

i really like whoever is putting these monthly mixes together … it's a good way to find new stuff

Look forward to a "Just Announced" date for him in NYC coming soon with the Junior Boys at Studio B.

FYI: I can't WAIT to hear his new one, I loved his stuff with Metro Area.

been listening to various deadmau5 tracks and mixes, in anticipation of his show at Irving Plaza on friday 7/18 (hey new yorkers…). not cerebral, genre-challenging stuff - just well-made dance music that jumps back and forth between progressive house and melodic trance. makes for great jogging music, and should be a lot of fun to hear on a big sound system. i'll let y'all know how good/bad it is, so EDM fans can make an informed decision about catching his set at VFest.

Style Council - Complete Adventures Of The Style Council.

Disc one of this collection is just flat out AMAZING! That early burst of singles, b-sides and the first album from Paul & Mick are just top notch.
when i went to the breeders show, i bought the new disk, and the montana boys disk as well. i seem to remember the woman handing me another disk in a sleeve and saying something, which i assume was "here, this is free." i just listened to it. they are called nice jenkins. three songs. pretty good. did they play that night?

oh yeah, they got up on stage with the montana boys and banged tamborines and beat on things.

This is really excellent. I DLed it yesterday and it was like the greatest radio channel ever. Didn't love everything, but I got to hear a lot of bands I'd always wanted to. And now I'm pulling down June's playlist, so all is well with the world.

Plus, it's helped me crystalize my loathing of Destroyer.
Today:

Boris - Smile [Japanese Release]

Boris - Smile [Domestic Release]

<img src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/0/09/Boris-smileus.jpg/200px-Boris-smileus.jpg" alt=" - " />

I only just downloaded the Japanese version after buying the domestic. Both kick serious ass, but listening to them side-by-side, I do tend to like the Japanese release a little better.
I was spoiled by hearing the Japanese release first.

The American version sounded totally limp to me after hearing it a few weeks later. I like how they've been playing mixed versions of a few of the songs live.

Message intro->statement for instance.
i officially have no hipster cred: try as i might, i just can't get into boris that much. it's not bad, but i don't see myself reaching for "smile" on a regular basis. maybe i need to see them live? (i wasn't able to make the show this week).

listened to the new girl talk this week, quite enjoyed that.

Have you tried 'Pink'? That's a good gateway album into the Boris fold.

For the record, I'm not that much into Smile either, but I do like Pink a lot.
oxford collapse - bits

great cd
I definitely think that album can work as a code for non-doom fans. Kinda makes the rest make sense to an outside observer, I think.

Rainbow is a great intro although it's not very representative of their over all sound. Then again, it's hard to say that they do have a distinct sound since they're so all over the place.

Akuma No Uta is quite good, too.
As is Pink as mentioned above.

I doubt their slower, dronier releases like Feedbacker, Flood or Absolutego will do anything for you but I like them a lot.
I'd agree. I probably dont' listen to them very often, but when I need a 64 minute dose of drone, they usually do the trick.

Nadja - The Bungled and the Botched

This is their 3rd or 4th album this year and my favorite yet.
