Interesting… I've enjoyed everything I've heard, thus, far.

It’s all deep for me
I wish presidents could still get things done like LBJ …
There is a great call with Jackie (I thought they couldn’t stand each other…), one with Truman where he gets him to represent the US at a funeral for the king of Greece (“I need to show them we love them…”) when he is worried about Cyprus but can’t attend
There is a call in early 64 about Vietnam where he talks about getting sucked in and it’s like “DUDE you had it totally right! WHY did you let yourself get sucked in”
And of course the calls where he gets/cajoles Senators to reverse their negative votes on bills he needs..”look I need you to do this for me and I will take care of you”

everyone forgets …there were 68 democrats in the senate at that time…yes a bunch were from the south
but think how easy it would be to get things passed with that kind of majority

Very True but he still needed them on committees and some of these senators were very powerful..legends of their time…he still has to massage their egos etc…
At one point a senator was like well I wish you had called me earlier…Jack called us….(LBJ is calling here to get him to reverse his negative vote)
LBJ is smooth as butter…I guess I had forgotten how southern he was
