What Are You Listening To?

There is top shelf Cave in the last two decades but like 1 in 2/3 albums

Some of the stuff the critics go ape shit about I am like “If this is perfect WTF is Let Love In”? That’s what I’m saying

I love Push the Sky, Grindernam…even the one before Ghosteen is cool in a slower way… but according to the critics it seems everything is gold

And you would get a kick out of the nonsense that goes in DTR
dropping JJ Fad's Supersonic…so for now they are nailing it ;)

I guess international Womens day is the theme

but going from Elastica to Detroit Cobras to X Rax Specs then to Dione Warwick
mind blown
Beatles Anthology 1 cd 1

I got to admit when I listened to these discs in the 90s I didn’t know much about music or the Beatles

I always felt Pete Best was extremely wronged…I still do… the way he got fucked over is just way wrong

I could go into details but read any good Beatles bio and I challenge you to think otherwise

It’s nice though that because he is on a few tracks on this anthology when it came out he made a real nice chunk of change.. I actually saw Pete at Ramshead Annapolis, met him and he signed my LP version of the Anthology

But my god listening to the outtake of Love me do on the initial Beatles recording session and yes it WAS a new song and YES George Martin used Alan White (sic) on the Beatles version that was eventually released and relegated new hire Ringo to tambourine

But on the original version with Pete Best..man he is atrocious.. listen to it.. it’s so bad!! He just can’t keep the beat
Of course that was his last session with the Beatles
Eye opening

So Best couldn't keep a beat to save his life, but the Beatles screwed him?

I was confused by that post
first I think best is the bomb and he was robbed
I even have evidence of how critical he is
personal anecdote of actually meeting him
even more name dropping
man this guy sucks, I can't believe the guy in the recording room wasted tape

I guess people need me to explain everything ..everyone is Space? That’s not a good thing
Like read a bio?

Why do I bother posting?
Well they had no problem using him for years…his mom ran a little club in the basement - the Casbah and basically that was their first big gig… Pete was also the handsome one that helped create a bit of a following..

He schlepped all the Hamburg dates..all the cavern club dates…

The minute they sign to EMI they dump him..George Martin -his words- thought they would be fine with Best..

But wait they don’t even tell him personally but have Brian Epstein do it

That’s pretty lame

Well you are confused by the fact the sun comes up every day so that is not surprising…
Fuck man this board is good for discussing beer types and answering Space’s hypothetical tax questions about people with ten kids cause he can’t bother to figure it out himself

BORING

Apologies. I understood - perhaps incorrectly - that he was not a particularly good drummer. Then again they liked having Stu in the band and he couldn’t play a lick.

Agree the way they dumped him was kinda lame. Anyone would hate to be in that position but he handled it as gracefully as one could hope for.

I knew most of this, but I didn't know that he was a horrible drummer and you can even hear it on the recording
Seems to me they made the right choice even though they went about it kinda lame
I can't imagine in those early days they had any idea what was to come, so decisions like that didn't seem that monumental

No confusion man, sun sits in the same spot and the earth rotates around it (while also rotating itself)
So the sun does not come 'up'.  Where you are standing rotates towards it

And potatoes. Don't forget the potatoes.
Stew and the Negro Problem - The Total Bent

Getting back on Turntable.fm has me thinking about bands I haven't thought about in several years.  Looked up Stew and the Negro Problem and found out they are still active and released a couple new albums in 2018. Doing a little catch-up
Silver Jews - American Water

So good

This came out in 98 around the time Pavement were spinning their wheels.. not sure why I didn’t hear about it until later…I guess I just couldn’t keep up..maybe it’s when I was in my Bob Dylan obsession period

Malkmus is all over it on guitar and vocals.. his best work since Wowee Zowee

In a bit of serendipity I was driving in DC yesterday..gorgeous day and the song about a beautiful sunny day and it being 75 degrees comes on and I look on my dashboard and it’s 75
