What Are You Listening To?

The Holloways - So This Is Great Britain

Yup an album very much in the vein of other mid 00's British bands, I would have probably been listening to this one at the time, reminds me of Little Man Tate…

and at least a couple former members on the forum were hip to them at the time.
This post is dedicated to Hutch, who complains that i never talk about music.

Flaming Lips-American Head. I've never been a big fan but i have a feeling this is going to be my favorite album of theirs.

Old 97's-Twelfth. It didn't grab me at first but it's starting to after two more listens. I still love Rhett's lyrics and Ken's guitar, after all these years.

Bill Callahan- Gold Record. It's about the same as every other Bill Callahan record. Which for me means i like it.

Tricky- Fall to Pieces. It seems like he's had a lot of misses but this one's a hit for me.

Bettye Lavette- Blackbirds. She's 74 but her voice sounds as awesome as ever. Nice selection of covers.

Gillian Welch- Boots #2 The Lost Songs. She's so non-prolific, it's amazing she actually has lost songs. These are as good as anything else she's released…which means very good.

My Morning Jacket-The Waterfall Part 2. I actually like it better than the first album.

Taylor Swift-Folklore. Norman Fucking Rockwell, Jr. Ok, not that good, but better than any other Taylor Swift album, for me.

I also sampled a bunch of albums that didn't really do it for me (hi Lucinda, Pollard, Conor, Bebel, and more) but why go negative?
Thanks for the long distance dedication

I am going to get the new Tricky for sure..I love everything he does pretty much

Am considering getting off the Old 97s bandwagon… Rhett going on about sobriety just isn’t my thing and the last album ended up being a snoozer for me… it’s messed up cause All Messed Up or whatever was so good
Getz Gilberto

Marvelous album

The talent it took to make this! Stan Getz, Joao Gilberto main players…Astrud on a couple of tracks

Jobim writing the classics

Phil Ramone recording/engineering

One of those records where everything comes together perfectly

^ seems like the bass line is missing?
the last Hal Wilmer tribute album for T.Rex\Marc Bolan - AngelHeaded Hipster.  So far I'm underwhelmed…

Yes

welp if I'm anything, it's predictible.
my love for hooky's killer bass lines goes deep
I'd probably say he is #1 on my list of favorite bass players
That new Matmos - The Consuming Flame: Open Exercises in Group Form. Whoa.
Laurie Styvers - early 70s folk/baroque

Reminds me of Judee Sill

Not bad…

She recorded this when she was like 20 in 1971 and then a follow up in 73

Then apparently gave up music and drank herself to death

Sometimes listening to the ones that didn’t make it…the losers…can be fun

Just found out that Dap-King Bosco Mann moved back to Riverside, CA and started his own new label and studio  called Penrose Records.  This a collection of the tracks he's released so far, lovely low key soul on tap.

In other news HBO creates programming so people will buy a subscription to it and doesn't have public access hours where anyone can be on TV.
