What Are You Listening To?

I've easily read 'Please Kill Me' more than 10 times since it was published. It's one of those books that makes for perfect toilet reading every year or so. It is so good

Preoccupations - Preoccupations
Edit: finishing this now… I did not realize this was the band formerly known as Viet Cong when I had this on earlier.

Have not heard it yet. I am behind. Will search it out, and listen, and know it will destroy.

Mexicaliente!
Ghostly Collection Vol 007
James Brown- Say it loud I'm black and I'm proud LP
Parliament- Mothership Connection LP
Iggy Pop- The Idiot

Man that Iggy show earlier this year was great.. since  he played 6/8 songs on it can't help but be really reminded of what a great show…
Siverhead

band I had never heard of… they sound like they're trying to be Bowie and T Rex in particular pretty hard..
^I kind of enjoy discovering these "didn't quite make it and long forgotten" bands…rarely do I say "Oh man they totally should have made it.." but that doesn't mean that I don't get something out of listening to them…

I will admit its all kind of weird…

anyways, the lead singer of this band is Michael Des Barres.. I guess his sister is probably the best known groupie ever…Pamela Des Barres…

Nigel Harrison plays bass on this album .. went on to be in Blondie I think…
My Iron Lung - Learn to Leave
Brainbombs - Souvenirs
Big Youth- the 3cd Blood and Fire compilation
Gil Scott-Heron - The Revolution Will Not be Televised (LP- a compilation of early Flying Dutchman stuff)

I wish I'd seen him live.. he recorded a ton of stuff in the area be it Shaw (where I think he lived), Silver Spring, even Merrifield (apparently there was a studio out there)

anyways, his 70s stuff has aged really well
Maria Bethania- Alibi

I tend to dislike the schmaltzy late 70s Brazilian stuff but there are a few keepers like this one….
