What Are You Listening To?

I'm digging the new albums from:

Janelle Monae-early contender for album of the year
Shakey Graves-was not a fan before but like the new poppier sound
Willie-comedy album of the year
Brothers Osborne-I'm a sucker for baritone country vocals
Kavey Musgraves- Surprisingly, I actually like a few of the songs off of the new  album, but there are a few that are comically bad.
Ashley Monroe- I like the new  album enough, but I still prefer her rootsier stuff over this countrypolitan sound.

It's not often that Space and I agree on music, but both of these are spot on.
Andres Calamaro- El Samon (cd 2)

This five cd box set album with 100 songs is a beast…released in 2000 this has in the past few months grown to be my favorite album…in Ween terminology this is a very “Brown” record…in terms of Dylanology this is Calamaro’s “Basement Tapes” but I doubt anybody not Argentine could “get it” other than the more immediate “hits” concentrated on disc 1….
Digging the new Iceage. May check out their show @ Union Stage next week. Anyone have thoughts on the venue? I have yet to go.

Not a bad spot, it's run by the guys who do Jammin Java, so they know how to run a venue well
decent beer selection and the pizza is a good deal considering the cost of food around there

about the size of u-street, but a better layout (400 max I think)
sound was ok when I was there…but it was a bluegrass band, so might not be a good barometer
biggest headache is by far parking…will cost more than your ticket
I'd recommend parking by l'enfant plazza and walking or taking the free shuttle (or metro and take shuttle)

I'm loving it. Such a departure for them.
Yeah I am listening to it right now…it’s like more of a last shadow puppets sounding record…

It really reminds me of ziggy stardust without the catchy songs…it is really interesting and a huge grower…requires repeat listening… the first four songs are so frickin cool

There's been a ton of Bowie comparisons. Alex has own "Major Tom" moment on the title track (my favorite on the album). While it's not for everyone, it's great that they're trying new things. I loved AM but would have been quite bored if this had turned out to be AM 2.
