I put on Amazing Grace….a very pure album…am glad they cut it…I wonder if King Curtis had been alive would they have used him? Pretty Purdie on drums…he is coming to town as part of that fats domino tribute at city winery…I can’t make it
Going through her Atlantic albums from the late 1960s….such a wonderful combination of great playing by an all star cast (King Curtis and his band….plus assorted greats, her sisters!), incredible production (Wexler…maybe the greatest?), incredible songs(willie’s night life plays right now and she owns it), and of course her magnificent voice; nothing like it before or since…
