Yes, they are comps of some bands you may or may not have heard of. Any of you that take the time to listen will certainly come away with a few gems they didn't know existed. Hipshit is not widely distributed but well worth the effort if you're looking for something new and maybe hadn't been discussed in Pitchfork etc.
Mogwai - Batcat EP

Two great instrumental tracks and a horrendous ballad.

Like…laughably horrible.

The title track is a rocker; heavier than what I'm used to from Mogwai and well-composed. The next one entitled "Stupid Prick Gets Chased by the Police and Loses his Slut Girlfriend" is a slightly shorter, relaxing, pretty composition. I hope the ballad "Devil Rides" was some sort of sick joke and nothing remotely similar to it ends up on the album.
Cian Nugent - Childhood, Christian Lies and Slaughter

Acoustic fingerpicking in the vain of John Fahey/Robbie Basho/Jack Rose.
Oh wow it looks like that was Roky Erickson on "Devil Rides." It really didn't work.

Sweetcell, just as a sample, Vol. 1 has The Brian Wilson Shock Treatment, Low Lows, Blood on the Wall, Say Hi, The Dodos, Tesan Damen, The Black Hollies, Experimental Aircraft and Fleet Foxes to name a few.
The Distillers, "Coral Fang"

Good shit.

Also been going back to the Cocteau Twins, "Treasure" record. It's perfect music. Seriously.

been going through those "comprehensive music" threads and downloading stuff i've overlooked …

this is AWESOME, thanks bearman!
Religious Knives - The Door

It's been great watching this band slowly transform from electronic drone duo to 4-piece psych-rock force to be reckoned with. It sounds like this album is the point they've been working towards for the last four years and so far, it couldn't have come out any better.

That Jorge Ben album is AMAZING!

I've been listening to Stereolab's new one, and DAMN it's amazing! Neon Beanbag, Three Women, and Self Portrait with Electric Brain are pure genius. Can't wait for the show!
Just listened:
New TVOTR track.

Guess it's ok.
The Depreciation Guild - In Her Gentle Jaws

Essentially chiptune meets shoegaze.
