What Are You Listening To?

Alice Smith - SHE (on repeat)
I realize it's kind of forbidden to say such truck but I've never liked Clutch much. And when I listened to their new one, I thought 'ugh, this' but I played it a few more times and now I dig it. I'm even going to pay for it!

The new Suede is also really good, as is Marnie Stern's new one.
Also, if you like Weezer, and I do, you have to check these guys out on Bandcamp because they sound exactly like them and it's like discovering one of their early albums. Rozell Kid.

Entertainment - Dinosaur Jr. Remix

I was wondering how could Dino Jr. possibly remix a Phoenix track… But it would appear the kool kidz now use remix as code for a cover so people will check it out..

needless to say dino jr. have really slowed the song down as only they can.

it's also a bit odd to put out an official cover right before the album release… i guess it's so the other half of the blogsphere will jump on the bandwagon… social media and viral marketing is clearly not for the weak

I've got a friend whose band, Deep Cut, does this all the time lately for bands. Damned good remixes too! Actually, I've seen lots of others too as it does seem to be the latest trend in the music world. Especially for the small independent labels or bands doing the DIY thing.

Ulrich Schnauss has been doing it for years. Maybe one of the musicians who started that trend. At least, within my circle of music lovers.
I personally think the whole remixing thing has gotten a little out of hand, band remixing other bands, endless amateur remixs.  This is the first time I've heard a cover called a remix.  And don't get me wrong artists releasing covers has been going on since forever, it's just aren't official released so soon after the original.  Garage Band for good or bad has forever changed the recording process.

Heidi Talbot - Angels Without Wings

Irish folksinger I first heard singing backup on a couple of tracks on the last Idlewild album.  So far really enjoying this record….

The new Suede is really good!  Listening to that, the new Bowie, Magnolia Electric Company, and streaming the new Depeche Mode.
Must be that SXSW effect for releasing new records, lots of good stuff coming out…

I'm enjoying the new Kacey Musgrave album "Same Trailer Different Park"
the Cure Seventeen seconds from happily ever after..
