What Are You Listening To?
I like the live version of Straight to Hell better than Combat Rock's.

[animal collective - "strawberry jam"]
can someone please slap me for not listening to this entire album until now?
it's fucking incredible, totally builds on their last couple of albums … i never expected to like another animal collective album as much as i did panda bear's last solo LP, but this is right up there

Mogwai - The Hawk is Howling
Me likey.
A lot.

Russian Circles - Station
Post-rock with metal leanings similar to Pelican but not as anthemic or heavy. Very good if you're into that sort of thing.
Edit: second half of the album got a little more anthemic and less metal resulting in a slightly more EITS-ish sound.

Horse Feathers - House With No Home
Iron and Wine and Bon Iver fans would probably like this.

Jaguar, I can see this ending up as one of your favorite albums of the year.
Post-rocky shoegaze or shoegazy post-rock; kind of similar to Alcest.

Oren Ambarchi - In The Pendulum's Embrace
How'd I miss this until now? Came out last year.
Drone-doom similar to that of the new incarnation of Earth but darker and more minimal.

I dunno…I didn't hear much of that post-rock formula that's been beaten to death by hundreds of bands including them on there at all.
Thought it sounded fresher.

Not exactly my bag but I'm surprised I haven't seen this band talked up on here before.

"for your pleasure"
not a huge roxy music fan, but this album is pretty amazing, save "the bogus man"

Couple things I'm enjoying lately:
Dirty on Purpose "Hallelujah Sirens" - Kind of shoe-gazey epic pop. Reminds me of Cedars.
Truckasaurus "Tea Parties, Guns and Valor" - Kitschy electronica made entirely with computers and games from the 1980s. Seemed too rinky-dink at first but it's pretty catchy.
annnnnd….
the new Metallica album - there are a lot of things I don't like about it, but… I do like it overall and I'm glad that they've returned to the epic jams with multiple guitar solos. James Hetfield continues his fucking awful singing style from the 90s, with a "-YAH!" added to the end of every goddamn line. But other than that, it's solid and is growing on me after 4-5 spins.
