What Are You Listening To?

This is the shit

Passed up seeing him in Baltimore a few years ago… knew it was last chance.. ido think it was his last show ever…

I still have email I sent richwdc saying precisely that..he didn’t bite and I didn’t feel like making trip to Baltimore on my own… big mistake

Show was free too
LoneLady - Former Things

an artist I got hipped to via the twitter listening parties… her latest is a definite trainspotters listen.. i hear early New Order\Depeche Mode, 80s Electro and early Detroit Techno sounds on this one…  lots of post punk vibes as well.. well worth checking out IMHO

Queen Greatest Hits 1 and 2

Every year or so I need a little Freddie!

Don’t stop me now is a tour de force! I never tire of it unlike some of the other tracks

Miss you Freddie..you were on of a kind
And
Somebody to love

What a fuckin performance by Freddie

My lord when he sings “but everybody wants to put me dooooownnn!”

Excuse me I am having a musical moment in my car
And the falsetto at 3:50!!!

Find me somebody to invent a time machine so I can go see a Freddie show
they are doing a 40th anniversary re-issue of Queen's Greatest Hits, but looks like won't be tying up vinyl pressing plants for it… just CDs and cassettes..

I never really warmed up to the Pretenders when these songs came out
I didn't hate them, but wouldn't be caught dead putting them on a mix tape

Steve Jones mentioned how Chrissy was there at ground zero and kinda got laughed off at the time for not being that engaging/talented when she tried to be in some of the up and coming bands
then he says, but who got the last fucking laugh as she ended up being one of the most successful of that early crew

So many great songs on this, but I just love My City Was Gone
seriously my favorite song of 2021
If she isn't the godmother of badassness, I really don't know who else would hold the crown
Great album. I think that was included in the stack Hutch sent to me.

Down to opening last couple of boxes of records from the move four years ago…found this- my first Blue Note on lp- collection of soul jazz… bought in the mid 1990s…probably when it came out in 96

This record was arguably an important “in” for me as far as jazz is concerned…I still like this type of jazz but got into more straight ahead stuff subsequently
Steely Dan - The Royal Scam

This is where the Dan really come together for me….

“Got a case of dynamite, I could hold out here all nite…”

Gary Kemp - INSOLO

wow is this ever schmaltzy… granted Spandau Ballet always seem to be on the fine line of being overblown…  but this is a bit to much

hoping the positive review of the new U-Roy pans out…
so the U-Roy posthumous album "Solid Gold" definitely more my speed…

now on to Black Honey "Written and Directed" definitely one of my best finds via the twitter listening parties.. solid bangers front to back.. perfect Friday week is almost done listening
Have you heard a lot of U Roy

Cause I think posthumous albums are the last place to listen to a musician

The Guardian review said he was still at the top of his game and I saw elsewhere that it was supposed to be released in 2020 but pushed back due to covid. etc…

Darn thing just gets better and better with each listen… definitely a best of 2021 for moi
