Finally picked this up..the second 2LP volume of Ella sings the Duke Ellington Songbook (with Duke Ellington Orchestra)… I have a lot of Ella records but this one proved elusive… I've seen dozens of the other Ella Songbooks but this one rarely pops up.. I wonder if it sold less because the composer was Ellington as opposed to say Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hart, Arlen or whoever (all white)…or what the reason is…..Now I have to get the first volume…
ok found volume 1 . i guess 1 is with orchestra and vol 2 is with small groups but vol 1 has more of the classic ellington tracks and is 4 full sides of ella whereas 2 is 3 sides of ella and 1 of duke's orchestra…. including a to die for Take the A Train with some great scatting…
anyways now i finally have both volumes… found one month to the date i found volume 2.. and at the same place.. uncanny..
this is the cover of the ella sings the duke ellington song book vol 1… released in late 1957…so getting close to 60 years…

Pasty Cline's first album.. from 1957… this is the second pressing from 1960..
whenever i go to long without listening to patsy.. like say a year and then i put on one of her records- ANY of them- i'm like "wow, why did i go so long?"…. there is something about her music.. and her voice…

Major labels often don't get contemporary soul acts right.. But this release is firing on all cylinders! I'm doing serious chair boogieing right now

the forgotten 1980s band…still nobody at all like them all these decades later
If you think they're forgotten then you need new friends.
