What Are You Listening To?

Nicole Willis & The Soul Investigators - "Keep Reachin' Up" another record better than Amy Winehouse
Pumpkins, what did you expect!
The Lea Shores
I think some of you would really like this band.

Just found out they played the Black Cat a few weeks ago and I missed them. Errr.
To the lads discussing Yo La Tengo above, thank you. I don't know why or how I they avoided my collection for so long but after those recommendations above, I picked up "I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One" from eMusic and now I can't stop listening to it. I agree - brilliant album.

Why I actually decided to listen to this, I'm not sure…

but the new Silverchair album doesn't suck nearly as bad as I would have thunk it would…

MY, HOW THEY"VE GROWN If you only know them as the grunge-era band of 15-year-olds, Silverchair will surprise you with their maturation on Young Modern.

Even during their days as teenagers in a second-string '90s grunge act, the Aussies of Silverchair had a knack for turning out memorable hooks. Still, the transformation they've pulled off for their first LP since '02 is fairly astonishing. Young Modern is a polished glam-rock suite, boasting more ecstatic melodies and colorful riffs than their four previous efforts combined. Frontman Daniel Johns' voice, once unremarkable, now soars from campy snarl to sensitive falsetto in mere moments. Here's hoping Silverchair's second act is just getting started. A-
catching up on my 07 releases:

[panda bear - "person pitch"]

holy shit is this great … i have all the animal collective albums and "young prayer", and i like a lot of the stuff, but i feel like they've never really hit anything out of the park ("who could win a rabbit" was a glimpse of it) … this album is pretty much a perfect distillation of everything animal collective and him have been trying to do the last few years … most tracks hit the pop sweet spot on so many levels, but "bros" is the standout … the first part of "good girl / carrots" reminded me a little of the brian eno's / david byrne's "my life in the bush of ghosts" with the polyrhythmic beats and tape splicing

awesome, but not as transcendent as some are calling it … a solid 4/5 stars

talk about hitting it out of the park … wow … i'm completely biased on this one, but i think butch vig's production really works on this and that they managed to keep a lot of what made them special early on … and it's always great to see a kid you grew up with doing this well

very solid, nothing groundbreaking, but a sturdy album from a band who looks like they're in it for the long haul
goddamn, someone uploaded the BR album for me and I lost it on my computer. I need to go looking for it, I'm dying to check it out.

but I'm listening to Voltaire's new Ooky Spooky non-stop
The Pigeon Detectives "Wait for Me"

Recommended if you like the Fratellis. Same deal here of recycled Libertines tempos, Franz choppy guitars, and Arctic Monkey themes.
Did you catch them at the Black Cat? It was sooo good…
