What Are You Listening To?

Sort Of is such a friggin great song!!

every song on the album is solid, not a single piece of filler.  the guitar tone is gorgeous throughout.

the song that has me at the moment is "getting old is getting old".  check out the audio velvet they have on the vocals - the reverb tail becomes a very subtle pad at the end of each verse.  pure cream.  very much looking forward to hearing that effect uncompressed.

i've interspersed this album with others since i got it, it's been one on one off.  12-15 listens later, i'm still in love with it.

Jack White-Drums and Vocals
Allison Mosshart(the Kills)- Vocals
Jack Lawrence(Greenhornes, Raconteurs)- Bass
Dean Fertita(QOTSA)-Guitar

Love the songs! bummed that I couldnt get tix to see them at the bowery. :(

Interesting…  I've been a fan of Dean since he was fronting the Waxwings, I knew he was the fifth member of the Raconteurs but not about the QOSTA connection.

i'm digging the songs as well… dean's got that great dirty guitar sound without the usual jack white histrionics  stomping all over the place.  hopefully their debut won't be the let down the racontuers one turned out to be.  this is also more evidence that brendan benson and the raconteurs would have been a great thing as i just don't think jack and he ever gelled as songwriters together.
can't stand the rezillos

I'm all about Metric's new album. ALL. ABOUT. IT.

Every single song just wows me. Hooks on top of hooks on top of hooks.
It's way too mainstream-y for me.

Good call on the new White Rabbits' album. Very good stuff.

And the new Phoenix is very good too. Mainstream-y, but in a good way.

I understand what you mean, the production is really clean sounding on it, but the SONGS! They're so melodic and fun and well written. Isn't that what good pop music is about? Indie or not?
Maybe YOUR front runner for album of the year, but I'll bet it doesn't make #1 on a single critics year end list.

first time in a long while that a leak has prompted me to order the CD before i've finished listening to it all the way through.  this one is going to be huge.

I heard that record and it's too LA for me, if that makes any sense. It sounds a LOT like the they're trying to be the Smashing Pumpkins…kinda fails. The first four or five songs are pretty tight though!

correct, it's MY front-runner - i can't speak for others :)

and i'll gladly take that bet.
I called them Silversun Suckups before…but will give this a try.

If this came out in 2009, it would be in my top 5! ;-)

Ornaments of Gold, Carousel, Scarecrow, Rhapsody…the album tracks on this are GEMS.
sometimes i believe i am listening to Pablo Honey, sometimes i think its Showbiz, other times, i think its Keane….

This song makes the Silversun Pickups CD seem like that "3 Dollar bill" record by Limp Bizkit, with the George Michael cover and everything…
"coltrane plays the blues"

definitely underrated.. of his atlantic years most people have only heard giant steps and my favorite things..
