David Byrne created (back in November) a list of protest songs throughout the years:
http://davidbyrne.com/radio/david-byrne-presents-the-power-of-song-to-give-voice-is-eternalI think the list is pretty good, but the Amazon referral links seem a little tacky to me.

People bullshit how they prefer meddle or animals or wywh but at the end dark side trumps them all… the opening trio is unreal

I had an MRI today. I was told I could choose the music, was offered spotify mixes of Spa, Classical, Big Band, 80s Rock, 80s Hits, or 90s Rock or Hits. I Chose 80s rock.
Realized immediately, during the 8 plus minute first song, that something was amiss.
Playlist included:
November Rain
Smells Like Teen Spirit
Sweet Child o' Mine
Losing My Religion
Some Aerosmith song I cannot identify
They will get a very negative Yelp review for sure.

Andres Calamaro- Salmonalipsis Now
A 2cd compilation from his 5cd album El Salmon that came out in 2000… has about 5 previously unreleased tracks taken from the same sessions
El Salmon is my favorite all time album so it’s hard to listen to a compilation taken from it as you get used to the sequencing and the flow of the album

A year ago I felt like my personal world was crashing, now I feel like the world I brought my kid into is crashing. I don’t know which is worse.
Bob Marley Uprising was good to hear this morning.

Shane MacGowan and the Popes - The Crock of Gold
Better than I remembered but I guess since it is his last album of new songs you have to get into it sometime

This is why I find doing best of year list a fruitless effort… I just found out about The Longshot, Billie Joe Armstrong’s power pop leaning side project that came out this year… one listen and it’s rather enjoyable
That and a new Egyptian Lover album also from last year

So next year…I propose you do a best of XX list, but don't release it until February, so then you can update it until the last minute to ensure it's accuracy

The Longshot show at Black Cat was fun.
Fun covers as well as new songs and Green Day deep cuts.
A ton of stage diving, stage invasions, and general mayhem.

Kenny Dorham- Una mas
Original blue note lp
I went through a patch about 15 years ago where I became obsessed with this record label and tried to pick up as many original pressings but funnily enough I don’t listen to nearly as much jazz…like I overdosed….still every once in a while it hits the spot
I will probably unload a few this year as they have only gone up in value

Tom Waits - Heartattack and Vine (white label promo)
This is so good!!! Top tier Waits…
Kind of makes me wish he had never met Kathleen or discovered Burma or made so much money he could basically retire
