Nice slipmat!
What Are You Listening To?
As per usual I’m “poppin’ & lockin” to some Whodini

At times uncannily reminiscent of the Incredible String Band…not a huge fan of this type of music - British folk- but I got to give it to Malkmus that at least he is trying lately..trying something different….this is Malkmus without the guitar jamming or catchy tunes (although these tunes are probably growers)
It’s a great autumnal listen. Beautifully recorded….easy going vibe.. great bass at times evoking Danny Thompson .. Matt Sweeney is like a matador doppelgänger showing up everywhere (GBV, Cat Power, Iggy Pop, this…etc)
It’s actually a lot better than I expected in a schmaltzy cheesy way

Rinocerose- Installation Sonore
This is an album only I seem to love… French house/ electronica circa 99…no vocals…some flute seems to be a distinguishing feature…I tend to hate flute but it works here
Sent to me by a record club on my last subscription to one of these…there are a few really cool tracks on it Le mobilier, Mes vacances a Rio, Le guitaristic house organisation, Sublimior, Radiocapte, etc In fact album starts out awesome but fades a. It on second half or I don’t have the attention span!? I think it’s fair to say it’s front loaded
I like it better than Daft Punk or Cassius’ debuts…not as much as Air’s debut but it’s dancier and I think I have listened to it more the past twenty years
Unfortunately the next few albums by these guys were clunkers…and they faded fast….by 2002… I read they are psychologists by day
Now I dig it out every few years for a spin…I need to upgrade to vinyl but I have all the key 12” singles and the mini album that preceded it and has the best tracks from this on it so maybe not unless it have $40 to burn
Phoebe Bridgers
I can’t believe the hype…what exactly is so great about this? The strings? The buried and hushed vocals?
Did she just sing she wants to be my vegetable?!?
I am no audiophile but this seems recorded in a fairly poor fashion or the vinyl is not good…
It’s like a modern version of Sarah McLachlan….soporific
I cannot imagine anyone returning to this album in a few years

Maybe pandemic related..I bought more new -sealed-albums this year than ever before
well, you've made a difference ;)
https://consequenceofsound.net/2020/12/vinyl-biggest-sales-week-history/
there were 1.842 million (!) LP’s sold in the US during the week leading up to Christmas, ending on December 24th
History apparently starting in 1991 with soundscan… that’s when you couldn’t find anything on vinyl cause it had been phased out
I would bet around 1983 vinyl LPs were selling in the tens of millions per week in a country 50% smaller in terms of population

I have held off on this one for 17 years
The end of Steely Dan..sort of kept it in my back pocket as am wont to do
Today at the edge of the western world in 2020 on the cusp of 50 it’s hitting the spot..a little more understated than its predecessor the much ballyhooed comeback album -but ultimately unsatisfactory- Two Against Nature- hey kids can you believe it won best album Grammy for 2001? course the Dan became the soundtrack for my life this year…I am glad they cut this even though it’s clearly the most pointless record in their oeuvre..an unnecessary postscript… they realized this and never tried again…rarely was an album more aptly titled
Thank god the record ended
