What Are You Listening To?

I think it’s awful but I like it?
Trying to justify liking this turd with something other than “I am a Phoenix fanboy!”
it's no 1901/Entertainment, not that they need to continue to do the same thing
but I've tried again and I can't stand this new song and that video is just horrid
Glorietta - Glorietta

found out about another Adrian Quesada associated project… this one is a super group of songwriters knocking out a record over five tequila soaked days..

those involved

Noah Gundersen
Matthew Logan Vasquez
Kelsey Wilson
Adrian Quesada
Jason Robert Blum
David Ramirez

An interesting Americana record

Adrian's just released tribute to Balada Music "that blossomed throughout Latin America between the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. A refined collision of bossa nova smoothness, Beatlesque psychedelia and torrid boleropathos, balada used art-pop instrumentation (mostly strings and harpsichords)"

This is an amazing listen…  Gonna get lots of repeat listens..

dude is a genius

Queued up some new Bandsplains (evil spotify): Bad Brains, The Slits and Neutral Milk Hotel
Quesada is definitely a modern day musical genius

Glad he made some $ with Black Pumas

Makes Patti Smith sound like Lulu
Liz Cheney, Killing It
Bettie Serveert - Palolmine

was mentioned on twitter yesterday and was prompted to give a listen after many many years… a couple real classics on this one "Kids Allright" and Tomboy.

and this is quite the origin story

The band originally formed in 1986, but its members split up for four years, following their first gig. They reformed in 1990, and released their debut album, Palomine, in 1992
Love that album

I need it on LP!

It’s sad how the band faded away

They had a killer album of VU covers

Saw them at the new 930
Loved Lamprey and caught them at the club on that tour

this was a funny footnote

Almost 26 years after starting the band, Bettie Serveert finally met the Dutch tennis player Betty Stö:ve on April 13 ’18. Her ’70’s tennis instruction books called ‘Betty Serveert’ were the inspiration for their band name.
I like lamprey which I do have on LP too

They lost me with Dustbunnies although I have later records

They had some great early b sides that I don’t think ever got compiled

Carol’s voice was perfect

I wish I had seen them more back in the day
You can't make this shit up.  Cock Van Der Palm and Han Wellerdieck.  A pairing for the ages.

I so freakin need this cock!

Nice…does it have extra tracks?

I read this and I 100% agree
"some fans consider many of the songs on [this album] to be superior to their studio equivalent"

if I had a dollar for everytime Hutch said this…
Zero extra…side D is a stupid etching

I had to buy it for sentimental reasons but kind of a waste of $45…if you have the cd….not sure it will sound any better on LP…probably a flat transfer from the cd

It sounds good and the records are flat but the alternate cover is a buzzkill…I wonder why?

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s released on black vinyl but I couldn’t be sure so I broke down…$45 was actually reasonable as it was going for $80 with shipping from Europe…

The Northern Pikes - Big Blue Sky

one of those Canadian bands first heard via border radio… was surprised to find out they were still active all these decades later…
a couple weeks a bounty of great new albums out come…

One of them is Ural Thomas and the Pain - Dancing Dimensions

Ural is another soul singer who was active in the 60s and is having a resurgence of late with a hot band out of Portland.  Probably already on Space's radar, this is great album which sounds great on headphones.  Best of the year for sure…

Couple previous records out there as well…
