What Are You Listening To?

Tito puente….manbo of the times…apparently his 101st album from 92…liner notes by now disgraced bill cosby

Surprisingly great compilation for a mainstream record label to have put out in 1986. What pushes it over the line is the inclusion of Patti Smith’s cover of My Generation (Gloria b-side).
I used to have that on cassette, and it was a prized possession - the only Richard Hell song I owned.
think i might finally found the group what will likely send many to therapy… ok maybe an exaggeration  but still

Meute - the self described Germany Techno Marching Band - eleven drummers and horn players who fulfil the job of a dj with their acoustic instruments.

and to be honest they are more lowkey then you would expect for a brass band, plus the marimba player adds a lot to their sound

was suspect based on the description but they are a great listen…

a nice live session from KEXP

i like meute, but i get bored of them relatively quickly.  the issue i have is lack of texture: synths & samplers in techno can sound like almost anything, from a real acoustic instrument to something completely inorganic, alien, evolving, etc.  meute only has access to one set of sounds.  it all becomes kinda same-y after a (short) while.  like techno, meute's music is harmonically simple so they need other aspects to keep my attention… like textures.
I could not see myself buying a Meute album or listening to that KEXP again
I did enjoy it once, but same-y describes it well
One of my favorite albums from Rhoda Dakar (Bodysnatchers and other Two Tone act) “Version Girl” gets the full Dub treatment

Someone took the song intros by Dr. Johnny Fever on WKRP In Cincinnati and turned them into a three hour radio show.

I also see they turned the song intros by Venus Flytrap, Chris In The Morning and Hard Harry into radio shows as well.
