What Are You Listening To?

Valet (Honey Owens from Jackie-O Motherfucker) - Naked Acid

Very nice so far. Liking it much more than her last album.

Some parts sound a tiny bit like Brightblack Morning Light.
Sun City Girls - 330003 Crossdressers from Beyond The Rig Veda
Bellman Barker infectious well crafted indie stuff from a local band…
Diamond Hoo-Ha Men, while their bass player is on the mend, the rest of Supergrass rock it White Strips style…. Here's hoping the next Supergrass album and tour has some of this fire and grit.

giving it my first listen since it leaked a while back … really impressive stuff, "california girls" is up there with his best tunes
Really? I didn't like that album at all…well California Girls is ok, but the rest…blah

Not that I was a big fan to start with, but I was hoping for better…

Wildildlife - Six

One of the reviews of it started with the line "This is what it would sound like if Animal Collective discovered doom metal." which is fairly accurate so far.

i really like Distortion but i thought california girls was the weakest track (ok, zombie boy is more annoying). drive on driver and courtesans are the two i can't get out of my head.

looking forward to the show in NYC.

And I'm thoroughly enjoying this. And they're at the Talking Head soon. Hmm…

i love the power-pop kind of songs that he wrote for this one, and i thought the production style (lo-fi, distorted, wall of sound type of thing) was a fun change of pace

i don't think at this point that stephin merritt would make an album just like any of his others, so it's fun to see him taking chances with the instrumentation and sounds, and i think they generally work … i'd love to hear these songs live where they won't be able to replicate the noisy sound of the album, there are some real pop gems on there

i really like Distortion but i thought california girls was the weakest track (ok, zombie boy is more annoying). drive on driver and courtesans are the two i can't get out of my head.
you're crazy, "california girls" is probably my favorite song of the year so far … another sang by shirley simms ("the nun's litany"?) is great too

Completely agree on both accounts.
