What Are You Listening To?

Rhoda Dakar (The Bodysnatchers and also The Specials)

Really nice 2-Tone\Rocksteady take on the Bowie classic, the dub on the B-side is also amazing…

Was just listening to Rick Rubin interview the remaining beasites on Broken Record and was really awesome
He was talking about how blew away he was when he heard this
great episode and they hadn't talked in decades before this interview that pretty much covers the dorm room phase that the bands origins form
Crazy he was working with  LL Cool J, Run DMC and The Cult (Electric!) and the beasties all at the same time
Did they talk about “Rock hard” at all?

That is so Rubin…using an AC/DC sample on that BB track

And it’s so AC/DC to have been like “No, not happening”

They had to pull it

I got it here somewhere

I love Cookie Puss… it’s funny..

I was psyched to finally get it ..even has the insert and it’s in perfect shape

My feeling is the Beastie Boys stuff from Ill Communication backwards has all aged great

Earliest of French pressings…love seeing the Factory logo

This is a top 100 cd for me

it terms of rotation in a cd player (when I had them) for me, easily in top 50

Not on CD.  But actually just listen to the proper albums or singles…but mostly streaming.  I do have one slab (of the two that came with it) on vinyl some where that resurfaces every once in a while
So you don’t listen to Substance anymore. Got it.

This is amazing!!!

Only six weeks before the legendary show at Massey but 13 different songs performed! You need this

The LP is already out of stock everywhere…

I just got the 2cd for $9.99

New York fans suck on this… they can’t clap in time to Sugar Mountain and some annoying guy keeps yelling LOUDER… happy peaceful stoned Neil is like WTF

not on CD…it is a 'greatest hits'  not a proper album
Now Joy Division - Substance, that still gets somewhat regular 'rotation'

Well but they are 12” singles…special mixes… so it’s not a greatest hits but a compilation of 12 inch mixes and their b sides… most if not all never came out on albums…

I upgraded from the cd

This album is fantastic! Tin Pan Alley standards done really well. Rekindled my love of her music.

When I say “upgraded “ it’s just talking… not sure there is much audio difference! It was only $17.99.

The Figgs - Low-Fi At Society High

throwback to when the arrival of CMJ New Music Report and the sampler CD meant a least a couple purchases of new music..
discussion time!

What Are You Listening To? it's not new music, apparently.

Is Old Music Killing New Music?
Old songs now represent 70 percent of the U.S. music market. Even worse: The new-music market is actually shrinking.

"The problem isn’t a lack of good new music. It’s an institutional failure to discover and nurture it."
Haven't read the article yet, but I'll say two things:

1. New music recordings do not make old ones disappear. They just add to the total available.

2. There are now more old people than ever, and they like to listen to "their" music.

It's a demographic problem, not the music itself.
