What Are You Listening To?

Listened to three of these Sault albums so far, lots and lots of great listening so far… hopefully people smarter then me will provide more insight on these as to who all is involved… someone ID Little Simz on one of the tracks and one would assume Michael Kiwanuka is on this somewhere as well along with his usual collaborators Cleopatra Nikolic aka Cleo Soul and Melisa Young aka Kid Sister.  (yes i lifted this from i bio i read and would assume most of this is on the wikipedia)

Inflo the main man in Sault also produced Little Simz, three Adele Tracks and Michael Kiwanuka..

what hooked me to check them out was listening to what is still streaming and particularly this track

Living in America - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syGg5X5ds4k

and those five albums are only available to download from https://www.sault.global/ for five days password easily found on the twitter ;)
Hey Kosmo, where ya been? This isn't Sault's first rodeo.
Geeze I’m only three years late to the party… and of course I didn’t dive in deep to see who all was involved in Kiwankua’s albums
Picked up this 10 LP set I have always craved. Thank you Mr. Dean Benedetti!

Some great new albums out today

Big Joanie - Back Home

Described as Art Punk out on Kill Rock Stars

Special Interest - Endure

Lots of positive reviews/press for this one, out of NOLA punk, etc band.  The lazy RIYL from me is Killing Joke. And of course I should have preordered it when it came with two bonus 7” singles.. me thinks everevolvinghatch will enjoy this one

Both on Bandcamp and elsewhere

I cannot get into this at all.
Ezra Collective- Where I'm Meant to Be
Sault-11

I got all five, I'm going to tackle them one new album a week. Off to an excellent start.

Also, the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the previously mentioned Ezra Collective. Cue Julian of Hatch with the Better than Ezra joke. The new Phoenix isn't really killing it for me either, but I'll give it more of a chance.
The review of the new Phoenix on All Music Guide is so positive but sounds like it’s a dud.

87 on Metacritic (higher than Taylor Swift's new album!) So yes, the critics love it. I'll listen more, could be a grower.
Bad Nerves.  Came out in 2020, but I just found it…soo freaking good.

Never been on this side of the pond, with costs I doubt they will

I'm going to have to give this an additional spin as well. This did not grab me at first blush but maybe I'm missing something.
What I was thinking about the new Phoenix album is why at this point they aren't releasing them in French.  The lyrics aren't totally cringeworthy, but I can't help to think that in this case it would have worked better in French verses English.  Pretty sure they have probably peaked in terms of popularity so an album in French isn't going to turn off fans.  Or they could do it K-Pop style where the choruses are done in English the rest in French.  I caught part of their live chat and the guitarist said basically they were bored with the limited sound of the guitar, which is why it's a keyboard oriented album.

Personally, I think they peaked with "It's Never Been Like That" and they have never matched the urgency of this one and the later albums have a good single here and there with far too much just ok tracks.
