Yes, the new Metric album is really good.  Every song is great.

unfortunately, though, it has only fueled my borderline stalker obsession with Emily Haines….
Tinted Windows

file this one under "but the little girls understand"

Tinted Windows a pop/rock supergroup of sorts with Taylor Hanson, Bun E. Carlos, Adam Schlesinger and Jame Iha. I sure was skeptical about these guys when the EW reviewer name dropped both Big Star and the Knack when writing about their debut album, so decided to be sure to check them out.

While the record isn't going to change the world or end up on any best of 2009 lists, I suspect this band will be hot ticket if they hit the club and will  turn some heads if they appear on any second stages of summer festivals.  It's one of the best commercial power pop records I've heard in an awhile, in that it has substance behind that slick production.  Contains a  couple really great singles and better than average album tracks, which are growing on me with repeated listens.

Overall the sound is best described as Cheap Trick crossed with The Knack.

oh and I'm going through a bit of a The Turtles phase at the moment, perfect springtime music..
New York Dolls and Johnny Thunders/Heartbreakers

I know I'm way late to the party on this, but holy sh*t, I had no idea.  Came across a New York Dolls concert from the Matrix in SF from 1973 or 74 on YouTube and it blew me away.  I had thought they were 'kitsch' and Johnny Thunders was just a junkie cartoon character . . . I should have known better . . . they were pure rock and roll and Thunders was incredible . . .

Same.  I'm enjoying it.  It's definitely the "New Morning" of his modern day phase.

Good record, nothing that jumps out as "classic," but just an easy record to listen to beginning to end.

I also see it growing on me by the time summer hits.

At least the album cover is exciting…

The Shape of Punk to Come

Sometimes it takes a few minutes to fully get back into this record.  Like Pearl Jam, I feel listening to the original can be watered down by all of the shit that came afterward.  But by the middle of "Liberation Frequency", I remember why this slays.

I'll add to the praise for this album - one of the best of the year so far for me

this is easily one of the 10 best records ever made in my opinion. it was great, after Fall Out Boy left the stage saturday night, the PA system blasted "New Noise"  the kids didnt really seem to know what to do so they just left, almost scared!

Funny, I was just coming in here to post this very CD.

Quite nice! What do you think?

Btw, did you order that 93MilllionMilesFromTheSun CD? Mine is currently over the Atlantic. Can't flipping wait for that one to arrive! Have you heard their promo CD or anything from it? Of course, I've got several cuts in regular rotation on Air Atlantic Underground. Rob and Nick sent out these full length promos last summer to a limited amount of friends and fans. I was lucky enough to get one as most within our circle were. We all placed that promo in our best of 2008 releases because it was so amazingly good. Can't wait to hear what they did with the official release. That promo was jam packed full (almost an hour's worth!) of very good music. If I know we will see each other sometime, I can give you a CD-r. Because of a certain trust factor I need to maintain, I absolutely never, ever let promos out but since they freely gave these out to the gang, I know they won't mind. You're gonna love it!
Nice I definitely want to check that out.  The official album is really good.  Lots of guitar effects, unintelligible singing, droning riffs, etc.  In other words, it is some good noise! I didnt get the hard copy, just the digital download that they have.

As for SPC ECO, they are now on my sleep playlist on my ipod.  They reminded me of Ulrich Schnauss.

I hope both bands play shows around here in the near future…
I've been listening to this band Dominique on the Kompakt label. They're perfect.

They released an album called "More Love Now" last year, and it rules. Richard Davis, who is a microhouse producer/singer, known for his work with Superpitcher and Michael Mayer, is a core member of the band. I *love* them.
