What Are You Listening To?

A lot of doo wop and early rhythm and blues rock and roll not so much space jazz

The original Somebody’s in love -which Yo la tengo covered to great effect- is here

Already out of print… why these labels undertake such monumental reissues only to make the pressings so limited I will never understand… I guess they figure people can just buy the downloads and don’t want to sit on stock

I think the demand for this kind of stuff is in the 1000s of people, so why would they do a big pressing…they do have to cover costs, and I'm sure make a little cash
not like a non profit is putting it out
Agree the initial demand has to be in the thousands but it’s the kind of release that will sell consistently over the years if in print.

Record labels these days -when it comes to vinyl- just do limited runs and don’t keep things in print. And I’m not just talking about non mainstream acts. Releases are all limited and collectible and special. I’ll take it over no vinyl at all but it’s frustrating having to chase out of print titles on discogs or eBay and pay huge markups.

Everyone is a scalper or reseller of everything now. It’s kind of pathetic.

Ryuichi Sakamoto - Dischord

Hoping for the best for him… he is fighting for his life against cancer

You know who made money on the gold rush…people who sold the tools for gold digging
middle men are gifting this industry from all angles
While it is 'art' it's still a commercial enterprise that values profit first…all labels can't and don't want to be discord (not related to your last post)

The best piano player.
Girls Generation - Lion Heart (the Fifth Album)

saw that Girls Generation one of the better K-Pop Girl groups have a new record on the horizon as well as BlackPink guess it's time to go back to best bubblegum pop around for awhile..
The Dracu-La's
Cotton Mather - Kontiki
Gave a listen to the new Jack White solo record and while it's better than most of his solo stuff which I find just full of wankery and just boring…  it really just made me want to listen to "White Blood Cells" again
Don't normally listen to Beyonce, but the new one intrigued me.. so far it's fading in out of the background but the first single "Break My Soul"  which samples Robin S.'s mighty might anthem "Show Me Love" is good.  And this one really jumped out at me  "Pure/Honey" as is last track "Summer Renaissance" which samples Donna Summer. and of course Pure/Honey is the next single of this record..

I also learned because Kelis is upset that Milkshake was sampled without clearance on this one… turns out because it's a Neptune's song, so she might not have any say in the matter… anyways I learned  Milkshake was written for and later rejected as a Brittney Spears track.  also apparently in huff Pharrell told Kelis he'd wish he had given to Brittney instead… i'm not seeing Milkshake as Brittney track

Caetano’s first album released in 1967 was a bossa nova record with Gal Costa.  It’s lovely stuff but much more in common with Joao Gilberto than the frenetic tropicalia stuff he would become known for the next year. Really tough to find an original copy of this so I settled for a reissue I think is a bootleg.

Caetano Veloso - Araca Azul

Pretty wacky album…

My copy- an 80s reissue- has a bad warp but I make do
