No, the MGMT album isn't great but it's a step in the right direction.

That said, you couldn't pay me to see them.

Vampire Weekend aren't worth my time so I can't comment on that one.
For fans of idiots that like to wear stupid mouse helmets and play a shitty excuse for house music:

missed the presale…any word on a club presale?

I wanted to bump this because I am curious too.
The Morning After Girls will be playing Farmfest sometime in July. (That's in Maryland near the Pennsylvania line. Pretty close to you Joe!)

Details to follow.
oh cool, more dates from them would be much appreciated.

Merriweather

They sucked at Bonnaroo.  They sucked at the 930 club.  They were horrible on SNL.  I dont think a bigger stage is going to do them any good.

b-b-but theyre indie! and they have that one song! about kids!

Didnt they OPEN for Of Montreal at club dates less than 2 years ago??  that said, i enjoy their new album. it is weird that they could be headlining merriweather. perhaps they are part of some larger tour.
The MGMT show is a headlining show.  It is really not that surprising in that they sold out the 9:30 last time and IMP commonly puts band at Merriweather in the summer that aren't quite big enough for the venue.

Personally I think it is great as the venue is very comfortable when it is not really full (easy parking, short lines for concessions, etc.) and it is a much better venue for rock shows than DAR.

Also, the Ticketfly system worked just fine this morning for the presale.

That's what they did with the Robyn Hithcock/Andrew Bird/Decemberists show last year. They didn't sell tickets for the far left and right loges. There were still enough people in the rest of the pavilion and on the lawn. So I'm guessing the venue still easily makes money despite not coming anywhere close to selling out.
i'm thinking Seth's not doing it if it aint making money!

When I was at RHL recently for Mastodon, I talked to a woman that worked at RHL who is a big 80's hair metal fan.  She told me that there is one of those music-themed cruises for 80's hair metal called "shiprocked."  Last year Cinderella was the big headliner.  This year, she said it was going to be Ratt.  That cruise sounds like all kinds of awesome.

Also Ratt related - a bunch of friends went to see Ratt when we were in high school, so in their heyday.  My friends pushed up front and ticked off some girl that they butted in front of, so this girl bit my friend Shannon on the arm.  That is one tactic for dealine with being butted in front of at shows.
^I know two 930 staffers that shall remain nameless who went on last year's.

Also on the bill:

An Albatross
The Vandelles

Very excited about The Vandelles added to this.

I've got more info but will put them somewhere else later since there are a lot of details involved. Maybe it's own thread.

Oh, and it's on Saturday July 3, 2010
