Dilana, from Rockstar: Supernova
A tattooed and tremendously talented singer and songwriter, Dilana counts Tina Turner and Stevie Nicks among her many musical idols. And it's easy to see why. Just as Tina and Stevie carried the explosive gusto and fiery appeal of the big boys of their day, so does Dilana put to challenge anyone who calls themselves a rock singer today. She is a thoughtful and direct woman who has a story to tell and a sincere and refreshing way of telling it.

Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Dilana began her singing career at a very young age, finding her way on stage in front of her first audience at the age of 7. From then on, she was music-obsessed. She left school at 16 to sing and travel with a series of South African bands before putting what she calls ?ĺyears of madness and violence in the city" behind her and moving to Holland to pursue her own musical life. A wise decision as Dilana quickly became one of the highest paid and most sought after live artists in the country.

From there things kept moving forward – releasing her debut album "Wonderfool" in the summer of 2000 which produced five hit singles and long string of touring and festival gigs. She also sang title tracks for two motion pictures and played an especially memorable festival in Belgium alongside Joe Cocker, The Offspring, Heather Nova, K's Choice and other legendary European artists to a crowd of over 100,000 people.

Dilana now lives in Los Angeles, by way of Houston, where she has been enjoying success as a solo artist. Her dynamic personality and uniquely powerful vocal skills led to her stealing the spotlight on the hit CBS show, Rockstar: Supernova where she consistently impressed the Supernova member-judges (Tommy Lee, Gilby Clarke and Jason Newsted) as well as the TV audience?Įbecoming the clear ?ĺviewers choice?Ĺ in the fan-voting. Now the show is over and she is back in her normal surroundings?Įwith a band, writing and recording music and putting on kick ass live shows. It?Ĵs about time.

There was no seating chart available when I tried to buy tix. The row number did say "GA 2", but it also said "Orchestra Seating." I ended up not buying them because it would've been over $50, and that's way too much…

Correction: Second East Coast tour. They opened for Explosions In The Sky at The Ottobar in Baltimore about 3 years ago. Don't remember the rest of the tour but it may very well have included a DC date.

I've been there only once, for Ornette Coleman in the mid-90s. It's a beautiful theatre with fixed seats. Metro U St. (Green Line) is right across the street.
Damien Rice is indeed general admission, per the lady at the Lincoln Theatre box office. Buy your tix there, the service charge is only $1.
is there a way to call their box office over the phone? or is just in person?
Damien Rice show is sold out.

Really? Says on their website it is their first east coast tour. Maybe the Explosions show was just a short run? Either way, they told us it is their first DC show. Which means you should all come check them out… very cool band.

Yes, they have definitely been here. In fact, after thinking about it, I'm pretty sure they played DC the night after Baltimore but can't fully swear to that part. Kind of think it may have been at the Black Cat but not positive of the exact venue. In fact, it was just about this time of year too. If I do enough scrounging around on my computer, I can probably find out the date almost exactly since I first heard them only about a day or so after they played the Baltimore/DC area. Boy, was I seriously pissed at myself for missing that show especially considering that I was only minutes away from going!

Also, they played New York about a year or two ago on their way over to do a short tour of the UK. Technically, not an East Coast tour but a stop over on the way to Europe.

If they are saying that, than I suspect they must suck at their personal history keeping. :D But I agree, a great band, especially if you like low keyed music with a very good vocalist with a band that is not understated for the sake of their singer. Anna Lynn Williams has one of the best voices out there! Kind of on the line of The High Violets but have to admit that Anna Lynn has a much nicer naturally clean voice. And that's saying something since (Kaitlyn, maybe) of the HV has one damn fine voice! (Let's hope it's in good form for this show.)

If anyone wants a CD suggestion, get their 2nd release called "Different Stars" as everyone (except those oddballs) agrees that it is their very best work. The new one, "Having" , is good too but not on the same emotional or musical level as "DS". Btw, there are 2 different versions of "DS". The rerelease contains their cover of Ride's "Vapour Trail" that is just as good if not better than Ride's. For the collector fanatics, you may want to get the original just for those eBay moments. Even though it's missing "Vapour Trail", it's still very, very good.

-Edit-
Okay, I checked out something in my computer. Trespassers William played in Baltimore a few days before 11/25/03. Maybe EitS has some kind of tour history with the date. That is, if anyone is interested enough to bother looking into it.
