this show is going to be so fucking packed … what was he thinking not booking at 930?
i had no idea his following here would warrant it. he's never played here before, he doesn't get a whole lot of press (does he?) at least no more than any of the other bands that play mainstage. i'd think the black cat would be fitting… or at least 930 would be risky.
Does he have any music playing in tv commercials or commercial radio? If not, I agree with you.

I've never heard of him. Likely a reflection on me, but aside from the young kid bands (of hte Fall Out Boy ilk), I've usually heard of the bands playing 9:30.

Yeah, I'm not so sure it will be packed either. DC is a very fickle audience. Some bands can grow quickly here, but generally not without them playing the city at least once. Though, I have been proven wrong before, I bet this doesn't sell out till day of, if at all…
You'd probably like him. Sounds a bit like Magnetic Fields, in my estimation.

The show is free, & apparently the only to get tix is if you're affiliated with the university. Students, faculty, etc. . . .
Well she's an ICON to you, but she's just Tori to me.

Alley Katz sucks wet dirt. It is surprising that the fire marshall allows the place to remain open. The equipment sucks. The sounds system brekas at most shows. Its filthy and even the soft drink prices are absurd. I'll be glad when it finally goes away.
I love that place…its so raw. And last time I was there, sodas were no more than $2, the same price as cans of PBR…plus domestic beers were $3 and premiums were $4.

i agree about the risk of playing your first DC gig at 930, but i really believe his following is bigger than you think … my small cross-section could obviously be way off the norm, but a lot of people i know really like him and have been waiting for him to come to DC, plus he has the requisite highly-rated pitchfork review and blogosphere fawning
So I'm out of town tomorrow morning, and while I think I will be able to pick up a ticket, if anyone wants to be super nice to me and pick up an extra with my name on it (just in case), you will be rewarded with beer/merch.
