shit, looks like i will have to go into the big bad city some night this week for ted tix
Just Announced
some one else will drive, i hope. if not, then no, i won't spend $30 on beer. more like $15 on beer and $15 on a t-shirt. i have no self control. but seriously, why isn't there a metro at bailey's crossroads? i would never move if there was.

drink at home before you walk or metro there. if you don't live within walking/metro distance and are driving you shouldn't be drinking $30 in beer anyway.

The current 27 shows on the 9:30 calendar have an average ticket price of $23.50, nearly twice as much as the Shins show. And nothing on the 9:30 schedule is even half as good as a Shins show, imo. And Black Cat shows hardly ever for over $15.

Not really, the face value of most tics for 930 shows are reasonable…it's just that the 930 is like most every other venue in the U,S of A, and don't give a rats arse about the fact that ticketbasard and tickets.scam royally shaft us with a big old rotary rose bush. If all these venues got together they could do something about it, because after all it is money out of their own coffers because we all spend less at the shows.

Gomez are better than the shins as well

The 9:30 Club gets more acts that are mainstream-popular; of course they are going to sell out more shows.
It's completely subjective, but in terms of popularity with critics, it's probably a given that the Shins will end up on many, many more year end best of critics lists than Gomez.

So then, in a capitalist system, the 930 shows are too cheap, or the right price, wheras the blackcat shows should be cheaper?
Shins had an album that just came out and are American. Gomez last album came out sometime last year and are from the UK. Not really a fair contest is it?

But a brief perousal and I completely disagree. He doesnt like their genre crossing……. I bet he likes odelay though.

I'm not going to get into a debate on capitalism but I do know that the Black Cat has more interesting and more affordable shows, and is less crowded with less capacity, and thus more appealing to me.
I once bought a Gomez album on a whim, played it once and hated it so much I gave it to a friend, who subsequently never spoke to me again (ok the last part isn't true)

Originally posted by Rhett Miller:i'm assuming that's the mean price. i suggest that in this discussion the mode would be more appropriate by showing the most common price without allowing one exceptionally expensive show ($50 for new year's eve or james brown) or one exceptionally cheap show ($1 for blink 182 or one of the several free shows we had this year) skew the numbers.
The current 27 shows on the 9:30 calendar have an average ticket price of $23.50
the most common price for the 27 shows on our schedule right now is a tie between $20 and $25. if you consider the fact that two of those $25 bands are playing two nights each, $20 would be the most common. the most expensive show right now is superdiamond at $50. the cheapest is yellowcard at $12.
i'd guess that throughout the year, our average (mode) price would be either $15 or $20, but i'm not willing to go through the work to find out.
just providing information. whether you're willing to pay the prices or not is entirely up to you. that's the way the business works. based on our attendance for the last year, i'd say that a good number of people think that our prices are reasonable enough.
Won't argue with you there. DC is full of younger people with large disposable incomes. Yoiu could probably raise the prices another 25% and not lose the audience. Double the prices and still make a greater profit than current prices.
