EDIT: Weezer also released the lead single for their next album, called something or other [who cares?], that drops May 15th, 2020. Announcing a record release over 8 months away? This seems really bizarre especially with a music industry that has went to such short release cycles. Why do this?

Tickets on Stubhub are already $8.99
Nah. With Green Day? Weezer/Fallout Boy, sure, but I think Green Day tours infrequently enough and maintains a big enough fan base that the tickets would hold their value a bit more. $30.

41k seats at the stadium… even if they only have 35k seats open, does this trio of bands command ticket sales to fill it up?

This is a well-thought-out point and I lower my day-of stubhub price to $20 as a result of it.

Oh, only 18% chance I will attend this. Saving my money - me and Joe are following Bjork around indonesia next year.

I'd listen to the older stuff, but don't feel the need to ever see him again, unless it was free.

And how does announcing this record 8 months ahead of time change that?

so their release strategy dates back to '96, because, hey, it worked great back then.

Were records announced that far in advance in the later half of the 90s? I honestly don't remember that. Definitely further out than now, for sure.

i appreciate that you take my commentary so seriously, but i was taking a swipe at their outdated approach to album releases…

No, no, you're not getting out of this so easily. I looked up 3 records on Wikipedia and you are going to hear my totally appropriately-sample-sized results:

[li]Weezer - Pinkerton: Recording ended June 1996, with a lead single released to radio on September 5th, and an LP drop date of September 24th.[/li]

[li]Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie. . . : Recording ended August 95, with a lead single released to radio September 13th and an LP drop date of October 24th.[/li]

[li]Oasis - . . . Morning Glory : Lead single released April 24th and work on the LP continued thru June of 1995 with an October 2nd, 1995 release date.[/li]

Now, none of these Wikipedia entries specifically cover when the LP was announced via a press release with relevant details (name, release date, etc) but we can conclude it had to be somewhere between recording ending and release of first single. Based on this, I can only assume Weezer is going DOUBLE BRITPOP as that is the only 1996-contemporary release model that makes sense. Can't wait for them to start beef with Blur.

very nice she finally got a headlining slot
not sure why it took so long
I just hope the 'sing a long to every song' crowd doesn't dominate the night again

Seems like the kind of artist that would appreciate a quiet respectful crowd with women and POC at the front.

considering the show was 90% women…not sure how you'd do the women in the front thing
I'm not sure if LGBTQ would go before POC
but aren't the elderly a protected class too
