Well that was as easy as getting Radiohead tickets….

Hirshhorn tweeted at 12:12 "We released 9,000 free passes and all were claimed within 2 minutes."
12:15 "75,300 users vied for 9k passes."

I went yesterday but we didn't want to wait in line for 2 of the infinity rooms so we walked through the rest of the exhibit. We were told "you can check out the rest of the exhibit and come back to check if the lines are shorter" so we made it all the way to the final room and turned back and were denied "re-entry" even though we were still in the exhibit. Pretty annoying. Overall it was great, but the lines were insane. 4 lines just to get INTO the exhibit itself. Then each infinity has it's own line. The longest was for the galaxy type one. The other lines didn't take more than 10-15 minutes to get through though. 20 seconds in those rooms is not enough time, but they are disorienting.

I also went yesterday.  Tickets were 11:00 and it was crowded, but only got worse.  I saw them all the rooms and it took about 2.5 hours total.  I'll probably try to go again and if I do I'll get the first tickets of the day.  Only way to do it I think… it just backs up and gets worse as the day goes on.
I'm so glad I bought the membership!

So much privileged kvetching about tickets on Hirshhorn's FB timeline. They need to face facts. Not everyone who wants to see the exhibit will get to. Too much demand, too little space, too little time.

I'm blown away they "sold out" of memberships lol
i wonder if it would have been as bad if they didn't do tickets at all - sure some days would be terrible (weekends) but might be a lot less people on other days - having tickets generates a lot more hype
