Just Announced

Valient Thorr, Black Wizard +more TBA

Today we are sorry to announce that Crooked Beat will be closing at our current location of 2116 18th Street in DC on Sunday, May 29th.
Though we have loved being here all these years, we have had too many problems with this old building over the last year, so much so that we declined to sign a 5-year extension on our lease here at this location. These problems have been constant, aggravating and very stressful since last year; not to mention, the issues have caused Bill to have serious respiratory problems. Over the last several months, there have also been many customers who have emailed, called or even openly commented on the unsatisfactory conditions existing within our store space. Instead of continuing to operate under these substandard conditions, we feel it is very necessary to leave and start looking for a new location. Unfortunately, at this time we currently do not have a new location to announce. But, we are actively looking. Until we find a new space, the store will be operating online at www.crookedbeat.com effective May 31. All inventory will be available to order online until we find and announce a new store location.

After 19 years of us having a store, we really feel this is a dawning of a new era for Crooked Beat. We have had a great deal of success with the store in the Adams Morgan neighborhood in DC over the last decade or so. So we are really upbeat and optimistic regarding the future of the store as well as our Crooked Beat record label that we started a few years ago. Taking a quote from one of our all-time favorite DC bands, the Bad Brains, ?We got that P.M.A. (Positive Mental Attitude).?
Though our physical store is going away for a while, we will resurface again in a few months with a new location and, more importantly, improved health!
So stay tuned!

Thanks for 12 great years in Adams Morgan!

And in the words of Fugazi ? KYEO

All the Best,

Bill & Helen Daly and Staff at Crooked Beat

Well thank the flying spaghetti monster somebody finally stepped up and self righteously announced a new show!  This whole place would be a total shitshow without attention grabbing whores who simultaneously announce new shows and denigrate other users for the way they waste the precious pixels, announcing non-show things willy nilly, and discussing show things without actually announcing anything.  I don't know how this place would ever survive without you, James.

Did you log in to you Julian account?

I was actually going for self-deprecating, rather than self-righteous. As in "I'm usually one of the people that turds up this thread, but look I'm actually doing the right thing for once!" Sorry that didn't get through to you.

What? How is that gonna work? They could not even sell out the back stage at Black Cat. I enjoy that band a lot and have met Valient Himself a few times but that room might be real empty unless they add someone way bigger than them.

COUGH w/ Tasha-Yar & Forest of Legend, Friday June 3rd @ Hardywood Brewery.

This will be a great time. Its Cough's new album release party and feels like a comeback show of sorts. I'll be there.

M. Doughty living room show

June 21 - Bawlmore
June 22 ? Wash DC

Assuming you mean Mike Doughty of Soul Coughing, he's listing:

July 18 - Bawlmore
July 19 - DC

http://www.mikedoughty.com/blog/more-living-room-shows-added

June 21 he's in Cali

Well, he's really organized as his email says the exact opposite. Actually, his email is correct, you're posting the tour from last summer.

touche.  Maybe some of those living room hosts can help him maintain a website

Is there a way to get tickets on this?  I tried to play with links and can't.  I was bummed to miss this last year.

not on sale yet.

Just as an FYI, I went to the DC living room show last year and it was in an unairconditioned pit of hell of a "living room". The Baltimore show, however, looked fantastic. Hopefully he'll screen the houses a little better this year.
Blink-182 are touring this summer (with Alkaline Trio's Matt Skiba and without founding guitarist Tom DeLonge.) w/ A Day to Remember and All Time Low.  i'm completely indifferent about them, but posting this in case there are fans on here.  looks like these are the closest shows:

08/14 ? Holmdel, NJ @ PNC Bank Arts Center #
08/16 ? Virginia Beach, VA @ Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater #
08/27 ? Hershey, PA @ Hershey Park Pavilion #

That just blew.  I pulled great seats, then they were yanked before I could buy them.  I finally wound up pulling rear-facing seats in the back row for $150, then just closed the browser.

you forgot to login as sidehatch to post that
that does suck, sounds like you need to finish of the rest of the Waldo

BTW…it was just presale…you'll get a chance tomorrow

…and that went much better.  dead center, perhaps a few rows too close :)

They are headlining the DC101 Kerfuffle at Merriweather.  This is the first I heard that they are touring without DeLonge.

Was huge into Blink 182 when I was a kid, but Mark and Tom were such a ying and yang to that group, how the hell can it just be Mark? Their "charm" came from their back and forth vocals. Interesting.
