according to their interviews and other sources probably none as of now, but they're going to hit NTC, philly, chi-town and DC later on after The DUluth Tour.

awesome, thanks
My money was that they witnessed an E.A.R. show which pretty much consists of him doing what you just quoted, Spectrum (if it's like when they played the Black Cat 9-10 years ago) should be a proper band with discernable songs (I'm hoping "Just To See You Smile" finds it's way on the setlist somehow).
my thoughts exactly. E.A.R. tends to be more experimental and hit-or-miss, but spectrum should be pretty consistent and more song-oriented.

there are actually two other really good shows on sunday, replicator (noise rock from oakland produced by unwound's vern rumsey) and rahdunes (heavy improv psych from oakland) at the velvet lounge, and jennifer gentle (really good italian psych-pop with a syd barrett fetish) at dc9. the beach house show would be 4th on my list.

Ummm, 10/27 is also supposed to be New Pornographers at the 9:30 Club. Have the NP's cancelled that show to open for both Spoon and the Shins at Merriweather?

Seriously, if this is an early/late show thing, who goes first/last?

Upon further research, it looks like Cold War Kids are NOVEMBER 27th, not October. My apologies.

Yo La Tengo Plot "Freewheeling" Storytelling Tour

Come for the Yo La Tengo, stay for the raconteurs. Indeed, this coming fall, innovative indie icons Yo La Tengo will regale fans with songcraft and storytelling alike as they embark on what's being billed as the Freewheeling Tour.

Using last year's excellent I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass as a departure point (and really, what could sound more inviting than that?), Georgia, Ira, and James will bring tunes and tales from across their 23-year history to some rather intimate spaces as part of this trek.

The dates are still trickling out, but as of now this thing looks to cover the Eastern half of the U.S., spanning most of October and creeping into November. Stay tuned as always for the latest.

Per pitchfork:

Decemberists
11-09 Washington, DC - 9:30 Club ("Long of It")
11-10 Washington, DC - 9:30 Club ("Short of It")
11-11 Washington, DC - 9:30 Club ("Long of It")
11-12 Washington, DC - 9:30 Club ("Short of It")

"'Long' evenings will focus on the band's epic, progressive compositions. 'Short' nights (while no shorter in set length, we promise) will highlight their more succinct, pop-leaning material." In other words, you're more likely to hear "The Tain" and "The Island" suite on "long" nights than "short" ones.

That's not a bad set-up. I thought I was done seeing the Decemberists, but if they promise the shorter pop songs, I'd consider that.

holy holy holy shit. this makes my day. im doing both… *sigh* i'm so lame :)
I'm not sure which is less appealing…

Yo La Tengo telling stories or Decemberists doing a full night of only their long songs…
True enough, either of those shows would be a downer. I'll stick to the Hold Steady/Art Brut, and the all night baby show!

Yeah, they finally announced it! We are doing a series of posters for this show that all fit together to make a huge poster that will be 19 x 50. Should be a fun four nights.

That is awesome. Please post them when you have them. Any idea on what they'll cost?
They will be 12.5 x 19, four-color silkscreens and they should be a lil' cheaper than usual due to size. I will also have uncut sheets that will have two posters on one piece of paper but those will be rare.

Shouldn't you be busy working on the poster for the Gossip/Panther show in November? You only need to update the date from the previous one. :p
Just got done doing Wolf Parade and Animal Collective posters for shows in LA. Yeah, they did not want ones for DC but for some reason LA…. And I just finished one for Beirut in NYC.
