According to DCist and a spokesperson from IMp, that “replica tiny original” thing wasn’t a joke. Going to be where Satellite Room is and will be exact replica of the original club minus the smell and rats.

I had that thought too, but I'm no expert.
It's a place for "secret shows" after the main event. Like could you imagine the Foo Fighters playing to 150 people at 3 in the morning?!?
Which leads to discussions over which bands are actually worth seeing at 3am. And those that ain’t.
my guess is the new venue is the replacement for the 9:30 Club presents at U street hall shows…
What will the name be? Nightclub 9:30 Classic?

The legal capacity of the original 930 was supposedly 199? Not sure if they increased it….
People have gained weight in 40 years so could be snug!
I know the dance and dj community really loved U St Hall so I hope that place comes back somewhere but it never sealed the deal with me as a music venue
It’s going to be funny if they stick a giant pole in the new club! I just can’t believe they would do that….
Maybe U St Hall will promote some events at new venue
