Just Announced

What an egotistical prick Bob Weir's become.

Wasn't the band just called Ratdog before? What's with his putting his name in front of it?

At least with Phil Lesh and Friends, the name makes sense because well…it's him and a bunch of his friends (rotating into and out of the band).
i think its because that most people just think ratdog is nothing more than a dead cover band. he hates that. he thinks that when ratdog breaks out a non dead song, everybody in the audience walks to go get a beer. i think he just wants people to know that this is his band and not a cover outfit.

I saw Of Montreal there twice. That was weird, too.
(Sorry for OT) And, Josh Ritter and The Frames a bit ago.

I'm pretty sure the band has always been officially named Bob Weir and Ratdog. At least for the past four or five years.
Walkonby, being as you're the local hippy music aficionado, care to comment? I'm 90% sure I saw listings of just "ratdog" as recently as 2005 or 2006.

2 shows? Those are gonna be 2 incredibly sweaty nights at the club.

Do they have ANOTHER new album coming out? Or is this still gonna be the Taranta tour?

But they are a Grateful Dead cover band. Look at this setlist:

Jam > Help on the Way > Slipknot! > Loser* > Bird Song+ > Loose Lucy+ > Bertha+, Looks Like Rain@, A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall@#, West L.A. Fadeaway > Ashes and Glass > Stuff > Morning Dew
E: Not Fade Away

That's 10 "Dead" songs (counting Dew and NFA). 7 of those are songs Jerry used to sing and 1 of them is an instrumental. I only see 1 original song here - unless "Stuff" is an actual song, which would make it 2 originals.

I think the naming thing is less about ego and more about marketing.
The Little Ones at DC9 10/19

Flobots 9:30 Club 11/4 (early show? Opening for Bad Brains? not sure)
So much for my two Bad Brains shows theory. :(

That'd make for a strange opener; guessing it's the late show since tickets.com shows Bad Brains as having a 5 PM doortime.
When does the Blast go out?

Just noticed Rhys Darby 11/1 (early show) and Hercules & Love Affair 11/2 (late show) at 9:30 Club
Tonight most likely.
MC Frontalot and MC LARS

RNR Hotel:

Or are they playing there twice?

bobby has always been the strange one of the band. for the longest time i thought he was the gay one, because of those horrible short shorts he used to wear in the eighties. read the article he did a few years back in relix magazine. he sums up his feelings about being a "cover band" there, i seem to remember.

and about the name. i feel it is just a spill over from the 'other ones' days of the dead and the need to be called "also known as." for some reason they like to switch it. i have tour shirts from '04 that say 'bob weir and ratdog' and from '05 that just say 'ratdog.' plus the fact that bob hates phil lesh, and if they are going to be "phil lesh and friends," then he'll be "bob weir and ratdog." i'm sure the line up, who does include a member who played in the other ones (which might also have something to do with the name switching) does not care he does it.

oh yeah, and nice set list. which show? i know, i know; a true hippy would already know that.
Rhys Darby of Flight of the Concords

I find this totally strange.
