Originally posted by Alex:yes. and yes again. in fact, the lead singer of SWR doesn't even PLAY AN INSTRUMENT. i think they hired him exclusively because he makes them sound even more like interpol. which is just bad.
Is She Wants Revenge that band that rips off Interpol who in turn rips off Joy Division?
Honestly, all the Joy Division comparisons sort of annoy me. I don't really think Interpol, or She Wants Revenge, sound all that much like Joy Division…yeah, they have singers that maybe sound a bit like Ian Curtis, but beyond that? Influence is one thing, but don't you think the members of Joy Division would be a bit pissed about being compared directly to Interpol or SWR?
I saw DK with Brandon Cruz on vocals at the venerable Jaxx Nightclub a couple of years ago. Honestly, it was a damn good show.

thank you for that info.! i almost thought that it would be a good show, since i grew up a skater punk worshipping those guys. but would a show now, with jello, be worthy of the d.k. name?
Originally posted by callat703:maybe it's just because i've been listening to a (un?)healthy amount of joy division in the last few months, but i'd have to disagree with you here … when you combine the obvious vocal rip-offs with the bastardization of the sonic soundscapes that martin hannett pioneered, i think the whole "watered-down Joy Division" comparison for She Wants Revenge is fairly apt … Interpol takes the sound in a less "alterna-rock" direction and adds some more interesting elements (and I really like Interpol) but it's still a fairly blatant JD rip-off (especially their first album)

it's the same thing, but to a somewhat lesser extent, for the Gang of Four side of the "post-punk revival" … some of the new bands come really close to being rip-offs, but almost all of them lack the strident leftist beliefs of Go4 (Bloc Party dabbles in it I guess with that gas song, but not much else) … although I must say that I like these bands from the '00s more than I like Gang of Four
