I didn't see these posted yet. I'll be at the DC9 show. I've never been there, though. How is it?
re: Ghost. I bet it is the japanese band…not aware of an english band of the same name.
Yeah, Japanese band.
The Ghost tour news was in the latest Drag City email newsletter, I dunno if it's anywhere else yet…

After years of us being fucked by Bush, in more orifices than one, his departure has now left us with the ability to fill the gaping holes ? of our heart ? with the reappearance of Ghost. The band held true to their word that they would return to tour the United States once again only after a regime change.

We?re proud to announce the following U.S. tour dates to you, our newsletter subscribers.

Tue, April 28 ? San Francisco, CA ? The Independent
Thu, April 30 ? Portland, OR ? The Crocodile
Sat, May 2 ? Missoula, MT ? The Badlander
Mon, May 4 ? Minneapolis, MN ? 7th Street Entry at First Avenue
Tue, May 5 ? Chicago, IL ? Empty Bottle
Wed, May 6 ? Pontiac, MI ? The Crofoot (The Pike Room)
Thu, May 7 ? Pittsburgh, PA ? Andy Warhol Museum
Fri, May 8 ? Philadelphia, PA ? Johnny Brenda's
Sat, May 9 ? Brooklyn, NY ? Music Hall of Williamsburg
Sun, May 10 ? Washington, DC ? Velvet Lounge
Tue, May 12 ? Asheville, NC ? Grey Eagle Tavern & Music
Wed, May 13 ? Athens, GA ? Tasty World
Thu, May 14 ? Birmingham, AL ? Bottletree
Fri, May 15 ? New Orleans, LA ? One Eyed Jacks
Sat, May 16 ? Austin, TX ? The Mohawk
Mon, May 18 ? Denver, CO ? Hi Dive
Tue, May 19 ? Albuquerque, NM ? Launchpad
Wed, May 20 ? Tucson, AZ ? Hotel Congress
Thu, May 21 ? Los Angeles, CA ? Spaceland
For sweetcell and most likely only sweetcell:
Shpongle
5/2
Irving Plaza
$31.50

If this is a full band set, I guess it's justifiable while still high but if Simon thinks a significant amount of people will pay that much for a dj set, all that dmt has finally warped his brain beyond repair.

But if it is indeed a full band set, hey seth…
I am a big Shpongle fan but I'm not too sure how many of us there are

You may be pleasantly surprised at that #. It would definitely make for an interesting crowd.  With full band, it could be a rare delight.

first off, i'm going to try my darnest to keep calm.  the temptation to post a million "ZOMGz!!!" right now is something awful.

second, where did you get this info azaghal?  it's not on twisted's website (the record label), nor any of my usual psytrance/downtempo info sources.  nice pull.  EDIT: http://www.livenation.com/edp/eventId/404786, tickets on sale now, just snagged 2.

third, about DJ vs full band: at $31, i thought this would be a DJ set - high, but it's NYC, plus simon can command that.  i paid $25 this summer to hear him spin a 4-hour shpongle + hallucinogen set, and i'd assume that a full band would be a lot more expensive to pull off.  BUT, looking at the price they're charging for the 30 Oct'09 show in london which is definitely full band (new album launch) - 26 GBP, or 37 USD - and $31 seems a little low but not out of the ballpark.  so, who knows and either way i'm there.

In case some else cares… i'm dying to fly out for this:
Shpongle Live in Concert (Album Launch for "Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland")
      Fri, Oct 30, 2009
      The Roundhouse, London, United Kingdom
(they did a full-band show there this past halloween, which looked great.  plus the freaks partied on for days afterwards :D)

for a slightly closer-to-home taste of twisted, let's not forget:
      Ott (live)
Spring Equinox Celebration @ Sonar, Baltimore, MD, United States
      Fri, Mar 20, 2009

and speaking of closer to home, i wonder what the deal is for this gig:
      Simon Posford (Shpongle DJ Set)
      Sat, Jun 20, 2009
Private Farm, Harmony, MD, United States
Guess I underestimated Shpongle's popularity on here and in general.

The only time I've seen Simon was as Hallucinogen at a festival a few years ago so it sounds like you'd be better at gauging his popularity/ability to draw a crowd better than I.
In case it helps the cause for a local show, I would definitely go to a Shpongle show.  Big fan.
the shpongle (dj) + hallucinogen (live) gig this past summer was at the highland ballroom and the place was sold out… in fact it was packed.  i predict that if Irving Plaza is a full-band show there won't be any tickets left at the door.

and for those who have no idea what we're going on about, get your grubby freeloading hands on a copy of shpongle's first album, "are you shpongled?".  read reviews here, law-abiding types & audio nazis should buy it cheap here - the production on this album is unmatched, you really need to hear an uncompressed (non-MP3) version to fully appreciate it.  when the album came out some 10-11 years ago, it redefined electronic downtempo.  to this day it remains one of my desert island disks, i still hear new stuff every time i listen.  i'll shut up now.
the britpop band is Ghosts, not Ghost btw. http://www.myspace.com/ghostsuk
i Love this band! was so hoping they were playing with Keane when they supported them in the UK for their last album. Im still waiting for them to graze the new york city shores (although at my luck theyve been here and i missed them)

Have only been there a couple times but, yeah, I'd say so.

First time there really sucked because of all of the glass that surrounds the room. Since then, they have made accomodations and it went from being like a 1 to a 9 for me on a 10 point chart. Intimate, very arty, sound can be okay if done right and a cool location. Hey, if Screen Vinyl Image can sound good in there, than they seriously did something to compensate for all that glass! (SVU are a very noisey band.) I think you will like the place. It's only a couple doors down from the Club Charles & the Depot and across the street from the Charles Theatre. Oh, and around the corner is the Gallery which you may like. A very cool and intimate Gay bar for the guys.

We can always count on the anti-azaghal, good old Dave, for the cutting edge concert announcements.
