one of my favorite quotes from david miller back when he was doing weekend update: "the recipients of the annual european music awards were announced last night, Better Than Ezra took home the top honors.  in second place: Ezra".
out of curiousity, who can i talk to about booking as an opener at the 930 club? should i ask that in here or try this in the FAQ?

I would think in the "Just Announced" thread.

Motley Crue - Crue Fest 2 - rest of lineup TBA - August 22nd

Be aware that most openers are brought along by the headliners. But there are the odd shows here and there where local talent is utilized. Always good to network. Besides, you can't booked if they don't know who you are.
I would try Black Cat, Rock and Roll Hotel or DC9 for dc venues to book you as an opener.  I see locals opening for locals and locals opening for national touring acts most at those venues.  930 club, not so much.

ok so the National are now doing both an Early and Late show on the 24th?  At least they'll be on time - they set up most of their own gear :)  Late show on sale next week…

And Digable Planets?  I haven't listened to them in yeeeeeears….4/7 at the club

I just don't like Iota - especially when it's really crowded.  No advance tickets and it fills up very quickly, bad sightlines, hard to move around…. and there's no real escape.  There's nowhere to go to get out of the crowd (unless they let you just hang out in the restaurant without eating).   It doesn't help that I'm in MD and it's just really inconvenient for me.   So yeah, I do actually prefer the Backstage.

I know some people love it though.  (shrug)

What's wrong with Iota? Easy parking, shows don't start too late, friendly staff…you'd prefer, what, Backstage?

dammit - why does this have to be at Iota?  grrrr.

I love / hate Iota. I agree w/ what you wrote and to add: if there was a poll for most rude and/or non-attentive crowd at shows - I'd vote Iota.

Tommy's show is a Friday, so you know it'll be crowded regardless.
Owner said the venue may go smokeless at some point. It's a hellahot in the summer w/ only one vent and smoke.
