Yet another bad take from Julian! SK is awesome and their only 'bad' album is their latest.
Just Announced
Julian has bad taste in music.

My take on sk ( ha voice2txt wrote seizure kitty) is if you were there in the 90s when they were playing the black cat shows it was incredible. When they came back
came back and played the show at the 930 club
that was amazing.
Hadn’t heard from them in a bit and the zeitgeist was just right
But their recorded material has left me desiring after the first two or three albums
I also thought that show at the Anthem was horrible
Admittedly, I enjoyed myself when I saw SK at the Black Cat many moons ago. Only time I saw them.
And I did find Dig Me Out listenable, until I didn't..eventually throwing it in the goodwill donation pile. The other albums I've heard, from various points in their career…I didn't want to listen even a second time.
It didn't help that my wife would start cussing me out, tewlling me what horrible taste I have, any time I tried to play them.

Sans your SK take, there are pages and pages documenting your bad takes in music
Even a blind squirrel can find nuts
Wait. Which of you is the squirrel and which is the nuts?
Man this is peak board stupid.
Sleater ruled between 1997 and hiatus. Call the doctor, dig me out and all hands on the bad one are top notch. And they were absolutely ferocious live. Clearly if your thing is the narcoleptic Wilco or you hate the Clash (Sleater has an album called Combat Rock) maybe this isn’t going to be a band you can be devoted to…
What happens is time passes and people get bored…lose the context…overplayed the albums….new things come along…and bam
Once Janet left or more than likely was forced to go I lost interest but man they mattered
That last show I saw at 930 with Lizzo opening was fantastic
Let new generations discover them on their own terms. I think they hold an important place in having mainstreamed riot girl culture.

Wait tho. Am I supposed to like them or not?
“Supposed to”? Are we children here?
Generally I like something if I like it…. Even if I don’t like something like say Pet Sounds I try to understand it’s place…I still don’t care for it..
I would say if you didn’t get into Sleater by now the ship has probably sailed…

LOL, and here I thought I was the only one who didn't care for Pet Sounds. I love many bands influenced by the Beach Boys. Ironically, I can't stand them as a band (but I appreciate their artistic merit, much like Bob Dylan…another one of those artists that I'll take a hard pass on).
For anyone with an acerbic tongue towards Sleater Kinney, I just caution you that SK means a LOT to women, queer folk, etc. It might not be your cup of tea, but there's no need to trash them just because it's not your brew, and some might take offense to your opinion as veering towards something downright disrespectful. If you don't like the music, fine. Just stick with that. I saw them in San Francisco when they toured for "The Woods" and it was one of those shows where I could really feel how unifying and significant a band like that can be to people looking for strong voices of women who can play great and write strong songs. Plus, a bunch of their records are still fantastic. I LOVE "One Beat", though they've got a bunch that are all solid. No argument really for "Dig Me Out" being important for its time. And though I think St. Vincent ruined them (an argument I've made before based on stories I've heard from folks within the "scene"), if there's no Janet Weiss, I'm going to have to pass. She was my favorite thing about seeing the band live. If that ingredient is missing, it's just not the same.

And I'm sure there's plenty of women in the great big world and probably even some queer folks who respectfully think their music is tuneless and unlistenable.
And it's Smile that sucks, not Pet Sounds. More tuneless wanking.
