Well, at least she knew we were kidding….

Lighten-up man - you got your ticket, you're seeing your fav band. Not stop taking the world so seriously.

Are you referring to me? I'm certainly not bitter. I go to all of the shows I want to go to. For me, it's a matter of being selective and balancing my showgoing with my other interests (and not letting it, or anything else, become an all consuming interest) that adds to my enjoyment of shows, and life.

Yes I was, but touche didn't mean to offend. I'm a bit obsessive about music, as it takes me far away from my day job and the people I work with, the job I'm fine with the current group of characters I work with, not so much. I'm pretty good at compartmentalizing so I don't think that music is all-consuming but it's a major part of what's good about life, at least mine.
Sometimes 40 feels like the new 70.

Perhaps running five miles today at lunch after listening to a baby suck titty all might long has something to do with that as well.

Well, I've never seen a picture or anything, but most people on here are early-30's, I'd say. Just assumed.
And here I was assuming everyone was 25. ha.

And no assets, I reckon!
my primary form of entertainment.
I understand it's the primary entertainment, but surely there are additional costs? (drinks, food, fees, travel expenses, etc.) Going to a show everyday can tax one's wallet, that's for sure. Perhaps, "primary hobby" might be the better word choice? And, it helps not to have kids, non? :D
I mean, what is it costing to raise a child these days, Rhett? $7M?
nah - primary hobby would not describe that accurately. its purely for entertainment purposes and actually its a huge chunk of my life. ive come to terms with it tho, under my own rationale - i just turned 33, i own a condo, i live in nyc in an apt (that is vastly unaffordable), i go to more shows than i thought possible in a city i thought id never live. im loving this. ok i guarantee ill be in debt in a few years (well my condo finally got rented out again) so i think i might just turn out to be in good shape in a few years.

my travel expenses cost a subway trip to wherever in the city, which is pre-tax dollars thanks to work! i hardly ever take taxis if i can help it. and traveling to other places i look at as a vacation (or i can rationalize that into something else). a much needed trip. i also manage to see more broadway and off broadway shows than most people and still see plenty of movies. i somehow live close to my means, but really - i have no kids, no family to worry about at the present. im sure once i have kids i cant go out to shows 5 nights a week, but while i can - hell yeah!

and i think i have my priorities absolutely straight.
Woa! You should have pushed the baby aside… that's good titty going to waste!

((Perhaps running five miles today at lunch after listening to a baby suck titty all might long has something to do with that as well.))
Concerts, movies, theater shows…seems odd to me that your time and money is spent on activities where you are the passive receiver of entertainment, rather than you actually doing anything.

Mind you, I'm not targeting you specifically, I'm just wondering what the appeal of such a lifestyle is???

And if you think you may have kids someday, why not put away money now, so that you won't have to go back to work and leave your kid in daycare when he's three months old? Again, not really directed at you, but I just wonder about the whole ethos of living today and not planning for tomorrow that seems to be prevalent in American society…

i do a lot of other stuff outside of that. but that was in reference to the entertainment part. i spend time doing things with environmental organizations, and do things like canoeing down the bronx river or lots of other things in the city.

it doesnt appeal to everyone and so be it. seeing live theater is quite the experience and its something ill probably only do when i live in nyc. dont get me wrong, its everywhere - but there is nothing like some of the broadway shows ive seen.

as ive said - im young enough and ill live my life to the fullest. i dont even know if/when ill have kids. and im going to marry an investment banker who makes so much money i never have to work *jokes* i might not be saving much money right now, but i will say i have plenty of money saved up for a rainy day thats invested in all sorts of things. im doing quite well for myself, just choosing to live this year a bit differently than most people would.

oh i do a lot of volunteer work too. its not something i feel the need to broadcast and i was referring to mostly my nightlife. oh i still hit a lot of clubs too if that helps to put me in the more active vein.

and dont forget - when i leave here, i have a condo of my own waiting for me in virginia. and if i move back to california, i can just sell that and start over, or keep that for investment purposes which is not a bad idea.

no offense taken - just my explanation for me. cant comment on anyone else.
