Just Announced

It just keeps on coming!

At the Black Cat:

TUES MAR 30- DELGADOS, MALCOLM MIDDLETON (of Arab Strap), SLUTS OF TRUST $10adv/$12day mainstage 8:30

THUR APR 22- BLONDE REDHEAD $13adv/$15day 8:30

FRI APR 23- BLONDE REDHEAD $13adv/$15day 9:30

I've heard good things from my friends in the UK about Sluts of Trust.
well everyone needs to go out and see the delgados! especially if they bring over the expanded group with them (strings, horns). there is no excuse why there were 50 to 100 people at the last show.

from the delgados board -

In a further piece of news, we will be entering the studio (Chem19) to start recording Album 5 at the start of February with a mind to the recordings continuing through to mid-March (at which time we will hopefully depart for SXSW). We have over a dozen songs written which we're currently trying to lick into shape and they are all based on a rigid 5-piece lineup (us four, plus piano). The album will definitely be a move away from the orchestral scope of The Great Eastern & Hate and will likely move more towards the guitar based workings of Peloton. Please don't hold me to these comments as things have a tendency to change overnight with us.
I enjoyed very much their show at the Blackcat last year, one of the best shows of the year. However, I found the cd good but not one of the best of 2003 or 2002, whenever they released it. Still, will try to make it to the show. great live band especially with all the supporting musicians.

Well obviously there must be some excuse.
Very nice.

has this been listed?

Black Cat
SUN MAR 28- THE SLEEPY JACKSON, EARLIMART, ON THE SPEAKERS $10 mainstage 8:30
I cannot wait to see the delgados again. I still keep listening to Hate over and over. I think a move back to the less complex sound of peloton would be a mistake. But after the Great Eastern and Hate having songs that sound very similar, I can understand it being a good time to change.

Blonde Redhead @ Black Cat 4/22 and 4/23/04

anybody ever see them before? i haven't since 97-98 when i saw them four times, but i really loved them back then.
What is the appeal of Blonde Redhead? We saw them a couple of years ago at Bumbershoot and found them bloody awful…
Yes, numerous times in 97 as well. If you were seeing them at the old Black Cat we were probably at the same shows. Their live shows have only gotten better, unless you plan on hearing stuff from their self-titled or La Mia Via Violenta. Not much of that at all anymore.

Hah, just read this after I posted. They were one of the first indie bands I got into in high school. Their first album is basically them being Sonic Youth. I suppose it was appealing to me because it sounded familiar.

Maybe we didn't care for it because it was held in the same arena the Supersonics play in, and the acoustics were terrible. Seem to remember liking them a lot more when the girl was on vocals and not the guys.

That would be the absolute worst place to see them. Their sound really only works in small clubs. Somehow they were on tour with the Chili Peppers a few years back playing sheds like Merriweather. I'm sure that didn't endear many of the Peppers fans.

yeah, saw them open for sleater-kinney at hammerstein in ny and thought they were still good, but not really at their best. their black cat shows in the past two years have been great.

that being said, where's the new material? have I missed something, or has nothing been released since 'melody'?

and p.s. unctuous miller - the appeal…oh never mind.
March 27
Oranges Band, John Vanderslice, Will johnson

Guess he got a date Pollard. No Iota, damn!
saw blonde redhead open for sleater-kinney at roseland ballroom in nyc last year. sound was not good, that venue was sorry as well.
