couldn't have said it better myself…and the old people who are in to rock (this board is a perfect example) are trying to relive some sort of youthful experience, not some old persons experience

Fuckin Chuck Berry

You know… the father of rock and roll
exception to a lot of rules…but he definitely wrote some of his best in his 30s

Jeff Tweedy
ok, he did write some of his best in his 30s too

hmm, I'm still waiting for them to release something I like…so not sure they count
Mildly interested in that superchunk show.

After Laura stopped doing the concerts they went downhill for me. She was the star.
Starsky's two page long list proves my point better than I ever could. Not a one of these artist's BEST works happened post MAYBE 31. I'm not saying you hit 30 and you never put out a redeemable note of music ever again, I'm saying your peak is behind you.
I don’t think it does

Guess you don’t know these musicians well

Nick Cave disproves your childish rule.

The end.
Roger Waters obviously

One could go on all day
Nick is another outlier
by far some of his best output is post 30

David Bowie..quite a bit after 30

I have only been seeing them since 2013. I never saw them With Laura. How was the bass playing, non lead singer the star of the live show. Cite examples, with youtube clips. Thanks.

you are obviously supporting the patriarchy with statements like this
And of course outside of narrow  “rock and roll” confines which really should be called “youth music” there are a ton of critically important musicians who peaked after 40.

The Astor Piazzolla cd I am listening to is from when he was about 65.

What about Cesaria Evora who by most accounts was working as a maid and by some as a prostitute until discovery in her late 40s?

Miles Davis?

The greatest Spanish lyricist, Joaquin Sabina, peaked in his 40s

Jorge Ben was certainly peaking past 30

It’s a bit of a tautology to argue youth music made by young people for young people is considered to peak when they are young… like, obviously, if young people get old and stop being able to absorb new music then the music made by young people is the only one that can be good to them

I think there are studies that demonstrate that there is a certain age where music really hits you hard

I'm confused… wasn't hutch saying Led Zepplin peaked the other day and couldn't play at age 34?

Yes. I understand what you are saying.

Nick Cave sucks and none of his output is any good.

Bowie's Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust, and Station To Station-Low eras are all from 30 and before. While I like Let's Dance as much as anyone, it's far from his peak.
Geez Yada zeppelin if you listen to their live recordings was very often a mess which is what surprised me about how tight their fifth to last show ever is

But Jimmy Page and in this particular case John Paul Jones - were studio wizards and I think In through the outdoor is a high

bowie is 30 in 77
'heros', Low, scary monsters, tonight and let's dance are after 30
I think Blackstar is up there too…but majoriy of his peak is pre 77 IMO
