Truckin' To The Symphony

Dig out that tie-dyed tux. The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra will delve into the psychedelic world of The Grateful Dead on what would have been Jerry Garcia's 66th birthday.

The BSO will perform the world premier of Lee Johnson's "Dead Symphony No. 6" August 1 at the city's Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.

The symphony, more than ten years in the making, is the first orchestral tribute to The Grateful Dead ever composed.

For the performance, the lobby of the symphony hall will be transformed into a counterculture museum featuring Dead and other rock 'n' roll memorabilia from the '60s and '70s. (…)

Tickets range from $20 to $60 and are available at BSOMusic.org. (…)

The symphony dedicates separate movements to Dead hits "Saint Stephen," "Here Comes Sunshine," "Mountains of the Moon," "Blues for Allah," "Sugar Magnolia," "To Lay Me Down," "If I Had the World to Give," "Bird Songs," "China Doll," and "Stella Blue," which includes a symphonic jam session.

Thats strange, I have been to the pavilion 6 times and it has never been a GA show.

Thats strange, I have been to the pavilion 6 times and it has never been a GA show.
the flaming lips show that was there in… 06? was GA and the modest mouse show last month was also GA. obviously doesn't qualify as 'almost always', but it is at least sometimes. i wouldn't be surprised if the SP show is seated.

teddy opening for against me! is interesting. makes more sense in cities outside of DC, i guess. i have no idea who future of the west is, and neither does google. perhaps it's future of the left, which would increase the awesomeness of this show by 83%.

why don't you have a space after the comma in your name?

i'm really surprised they're playing @ black cat, seems like a no-brainer that this show would sell out 2 nights @ 930

i grew up with their drummer, so i'm admittedly biased, but i love the band's career arc and how they've handled success … oh yeah, they write some kick-ass tunes and put on a blistering live show
