If it's DAR I'll skip too.
Just Announced
My guess is that it will be at MPP; that is, if it's early enough in October.

I thought their last show at DAR sounded pretty darn fantastic..rare for that place.
The Pixies have played at DAR? I thought the last area show was at Sonar?
Two nights back to back before the Sonar shows. I'd also agree about those show's being pretty killer, but I lucked into 6th row tickets one night, so I was spoiled.

Did they sell the place out?
Yes, both nights sold out. I was in the 4th row both nights, had a great time and they were very good shows, but it's not the best venue for them at all. I enjoyed the first 3 Aragon shows in Chicago more, even though it's a bigger venue and I wasn't as close to them.
Lets face it DAR is not a place to see concerts (ARE YOU READING THIS SETH!)
I mean DAR is a place to go see Al Gore speak about civil liberties not to rock out.
I am boycotting the place. I will only go if a friend gives me a ticket or if its a once in a lifetime thing..Many of my friends refuse to go there too.
Its practically criminal to charge more than full price - cause ticket prices for that place are high- for a subpar performance (in terms of sound/sightlines)
For all the Live Nation bashing IMP has its own issues and DAR is at the top of the heap.

i respectfully yet strongly disagreed. i've seen some amazing shows there - foo fighters acoustic, arcade fire and the pet shop boys were top-ten-of-the-year shows, among many others… it's not my fav venue, and it can sound bad in the wrong hands - but it can also be very pleasant.

Don't be ridiculous.. Just because you've seen shows you've enjoyed there doesnt mean its a place for concerts.. I'd enjoy seeing New Order in my apartment (and if they could somehow rustle up Ian Curtis I don't have to tell you) but I wouldnt' make a habit of booking bands there!
I also saw the PSB and from the side it was atrocious and I"m a huge PSB fan who waited 20 years to see them.. so lets not say because some people have an amazing experience every once in a while seeing a band they worship or from the front row that its a rock concert venue, deal?
I mean a band can put on an amazing show at DAR but that same show would sound a lwhole lot better at a venue built for concerts!

Yeah fer real he was. I'll probably go again just the same. Never know when the E street band will hang it up, or go on hiatus for 10 years. And at this stage, a 5 or 10 year break pretty much spells the end. These dudes are getting old. They still bring it live though, even if they do play too much stuff from recent albums.
Maybe with the new album pretty far behind them on this next leg of the tour it'll be more of a "greatest hits" type of thing….who knows.

Who's charging "more than full price?" Or do you just mean you think it's an expensive venue?
And what's wrong with the sightlines at DAR?

I believe his point is that, since apparently no show should ever be at DAR, charging anything is overcharging.

yes, no show should ever be at DAR. the venue stinks.
But to each his own.. some in life are happy to take whatever slop is thrown their way and smile. others aspire to more. I believe DC needs a new rock concert venue to fill that midsize niche .. this has been discussed on this board ad nauseum… surprising that the very people who would benefit from this insist on defending DAR which is not meant for rock concerts trotting out the same tired cliches ("Ween rocked DAR!", "I was third row center and it was great"); it does not have acoustics and yes the sightlines on the sides are pretty bad.
Basically IMP rents DAR and uses it as its midsize concert venue; they really have little incentive to build that midsize venue. .. Since they won't do what is patently obvious (the 930 is too small for far too many of its concerts and has been for years; it didn't start out that way but its happened) and build one somebody else will do it..Last I heard that somebody else was Live Nation; no favorite of mine but thats the way the cookie crumbles…
Of course I appreciate IMP and everything they do in town. But for a number of years its been clear that they should build another concert hall. Something in the 2500-3500 range. There was talk but it just hasn't happened; part of the reason it hasn't happened is that IMP can use DAR pretty much whenever it wants. Thats an unfortunate situation for the consumer but very convenient for IMP.

Does this mean he and his band could do an acoustic set if the power craps out on him again?
