in dc . . . is there really any other venue that holds a candle to the club?  i mean, really?  outside of dc, there are plenty, but come on . . . do we really need to ask that question, 'in dc'?

Black Cat?  Same type venue but has cheaper beer and less people in the crowd.  I guess you are more likely to pay for parking at the Black Cat.

It's kind of like asking "What's the best professional baseball stadium in DC?"

No that is nothing like the same thing.  Asking what the best baseball stadium in DC is like asking who is the smartest Tea Party member in Congress.

What is The Gonzo Collection?

PRESS:

Baltimore, MD ? Nowhere is the link between journalism and the visual arts more apparent than in the collaboration between Hunter S. Thompson and Ralph Steadman.

The beautiful (and often blurry) Gonzo reality Thompson created through the written word was perfectly matched by the chaotic visual genius of Steadman in numerous books and articles for the likes of Rolling Stone Magazine, Playboy, and ESPN.

In honor of the duo?s groundbreaking relationship, Flying Dog Brewery, in association with Woods Contemporary, presents The Gonzo Collection ? reinterpretations and responses to Steadman?s work by some of today?s most notable contemporary artists.

?Ralph is one of the true artists in the world,? Flying Dog CEO Jim Caruso said. ?He is also a principled, loving, generous human being. To pay tribute to him by furthering his impact in the art world is only appropriate.?

Flying Dog and Woods Contemporary approached 30 artists, including Bob Dob, Nathan Spoor, Justin Bua, Michael Owen, Nanami Cowdry, and Tatiana Suarez, to be a part of the collection.

The Collection will be shown at a pop-up gallery space in Belvedere Square (at 5911 York Road, across from the Senator Theater). A portion of sales from original art and limited-edition prints will benefit The Gonzo Foundation, a charity run by Thompson?s wife Anita.

During Baltimore Beer Week Flying Dog will hold a special showing of The Gonzo Collection on Friday, October 25 with live music by The Water and ussa pleasuredome 7pm-10pm

Steadman has been the label artist for Flying Dog Brewery since 1995. In 1990, Thompson introduced Steadman to his good friend and Flying Dog founder George Stranahan in Woody Creek, Colorado, where Flying Dog?s first brewpub was located. Steadman continues to produce original art in his inimitable style for the Maryland brewery.
