If I hear another radio commercial for this Country Coachella thing, I'm going to flipping scream! It's pure commercial Country….or Cuntry as O'Mankie often calls it. And not the good kind. I'm sure Rhett understands.
sorry! i'm really really bummed too :(
Whispertown IS doing some dates with Bright Eyes though…they just haven't announced which…

Wow, Sondre Lerche at the Birchmere? Nice. He's fun live.
I was just kidding, betty, though it is a shame. I'd like to see them again.

Not true. Aside from the main stage lineup (with the exception of George Strait, who is good), other stages look pretty stellar.

Neko Case is not commercial country…I'm sorry, Jaguar…
Joe, two or three performers doesn't change the entire flow of the festival. Yes, some good stuff but mostly Mainstream. For the most part, it's pure Mainstream Cuntry crap.
Rhett, you surprise me. I thought your taste was a bit more discriminating than that.
None of you, except for maybe Smackie and/or Betty, have probably even heard the commercials. They sound like something right off of your Top 40 Mainstream Cuntry terrestrial crap waves. I'm sure that has tainted my opinion…which I'm entitled to.

have you see the entire lineup, jag? there are more good acts playing there than at coachella, not that that really says all that much.
lucinda williams, neko case, robert earl keen, chris hillman, emmylou harris, kris kristofferson, drive by truckers, alejandro escovedo, the flatlanders, ramblin' jack elliot, a bunch more. they don't advertise those, i'm sure, but those second/third stages have tons of good stuff that's not on commcercial country.

Yes, I did read it. Most of them, I don't like. Not my thing at all. (A couple I'm not familiar with either so can't say much on those.) I would; however, like to see Earl Scruggs. Kris Kristofferson, Nickleback and George Straight would make me much happier staying well out of earshot.
To be honest, for the most part, I don't like the line up for the Indie version either. I don't even think I'd bother travelling in from L.A. if I lived there let alone from this side of the country. Again, several acts I'd love to see but most of the line up totally bores me or just plain out turns me off.

It's Nickel Creek, not Nickelback. I don't care for them, but you be betty does, I believe.
They do have some redeeming qualities, and aren't a joke band like Nickelback.

Ahh…. Sorry about that.
Still doesn't light my fire. Neither does Neko Case but I'll give you that one as being on the good side as I do think she's good but I can take her or leave her. Yes, I have seen her live and enjoyed her but didn't care whether or not I ever saw her again.
And I was talking about what I like. Not Betty or anyone else. That radio commercial makes it sound pure Top Mainstream Country all the way. Not in the least Alt-Country sounding or even old Cowboy Country. Believe me, that thing is driving me nuts!!!

I haven't heard the commercial but that's the way it goes I guess. I guess the mainstream stuff is what sells the tickets. Sort of like selling Coachella based on the mainstream headliners.
Yeap, you are probably right on that account. ;)
The only reason I hear it is because I like to sometimes listen to Coast To Coast at night. Though it's finally now broadcast in Baltimore, I can't pick it up because I live just under what is referred to as the umbrella of the radio tower. Can't hear a damn thing but white noise and a few voices that occassionally fade in and out like EVPs…but their aren't. So, I've found a station in L.A. that broadcasts it online and it even starts over after our's would have ended…which is good for me considering I often end up missing lots of it because of falling asleep. Well, during their station breaks, they've been pumping out this commercial non-stop. And I have this annoying knack of waking up during the commercials and falling back asleep again during the show itself.

Doubt this will do much good but somebody asked about The Autumns over in the MBV thread. Or, if you are in in L.A. and looking for something to do, this might strike your fancy.

goldenvoice is like a major concert promoter people.
if they booked a lineup of all "indie country bands" (or whatever a non-mainstream country artist is referred to) they would sell 1000 tickets!!
even Coachella has oodles of major label, overhyped bands. and rock is a bigger market than country, and Coachella is an established yearly gig.
i see what they're doing….put the recognizable names on the first year or two, then once they have a core group of yearly attendees, they can start mixing up the lineup with some real Nashville gems!
we did this often when throwing "rave" parties in the 90's. book the DJs everyone knows at first, then once they come every month, you can start turning them onto the good stuff. :)
be patient and Countrychella or whatever its called will be better
but then again, if a large festival ever has a lineup that either Jag or Rhett approves of…well, the world just might end!
(i mean no offense by that, you two!)
